GRACE ELIZABETH LONGBOTTOM
grace elizabeth longbottom was born to excited newlyweds neville and hannah lonbottom on august 31st, 2004 and for the first four years of her life, grace was lucky enough to have her adoring parents who she thought hung the moon all to herself. to her, life was all peaceful and grand as it could be to a four year old... and then came the birth of her twin sisters. naturally, grace was a bit taken aback when she rushed through the doors of her mum's private room at st. mungo's to discover that she had two baby sisters because surely that wasn't right, was it? you could only have one baby at a time, not two. even though it had all been explained to her beforehand that her mother was having twins, the idea that there were two babies instead of one hadn't quite gotten to grace who clearly had other things on her mind when her dad sat her upon his knee and explained everything months ago. however, ever flexible, grace quickly adapted to the idea of having two brand new sisters in her life and she was over the moon because now she had two cute little girls in her life to brag about instead of one... something she did, in fact, do when she visited the leaky cauldron (which her mum owned) next.

as for the rest of her childhood, she quickly learned that babies didn't really do much for a couple of years, she spent it mostly caught up in dreams and the most wonderful imaginary worlds she could think of. she also spent a lot of childhood singing and dancing in front of her parents bedroom mirror. after noticing her aptitude for dancing, hannah was quick to enroll grace in ballet lessons at the local muggle community centre which grace immediately took to, coming home and practicing dance moves in her room every chance she got... it was only a year later that grace heard an advertisement for singing lessons on the radio and she immediately scrambled into the always busy kitchen of her home, begging her mum with hopeful eyes and her hands clasped in front of herself. having her hands full with the twins, hannah was more than happy to keep grace occupied with her passions and granted her what she wished for. it didn't come as much of a surprise to her parents when grace quickly set her sights on becoming famous on broadway a couple of years later after her gran took her to see a muggle production of the musical 'annie' for her ninth birthday.

when grace finally showed her first signs of magic, she was ten years old and she "accidentally" set a mean girl's tutu on fire at ballet practice one day - when she wasn't wearing it, of course. even as a ten year old, grace was sweet as anything and didn't want to cause physical harm to anyone. due to her delayed signs of magic, grace almost worried herself sick when she received her letter to hogwarts on her eleventh birthday that it was a mistake and she was actually a squib because she had only showed one sign of magic in her entire life. it didn't help matters that her birthday was just one day before hogwarts started it's first term and so her parents had to rush her around diagon alley to get all her supplies. her worries of not actually being a witch weren't soothed at all when it took her a good two hours to actually find the right first wand for her.

it was on september 1st, 2015, that grace started her first term at hogwarts school of witchcraft and wizardry. with her father being a professor at hogwarts, her farewell on platform 9 and 3/4 was a lot less weepy than it normally would have been with grace being a naturally emotionally person, always easy to make cry. as grace boarded the hogwarts express, it was with her dad's hand firmly clasped in her own until finally he sought out a group of first years, knelt down in front of her on one knee and looked grace straight in the eye and said, "i'm proud of you, gracie. more proud of you than you'll ever know because i know you're going to be not only a great witch but a great person. at hogwarts, you're going to make the best friends you'll ever had. but i can't help you here so go say hello." and with that encouragement in mind, grace walked into the compartment with a small smile on her face and introduced herself to the people she would spend the next seven years of her life amongst.

naturally, grace's time spent waiting to finally be sorted was spent nervously squirming on the spot, trying to see above the sea of people in front of her for her father's familiar, supportive face. when grace's name was finally called by professor mcgonagall, she was frozen until a friendly push from a friend she had made on the train urged her to step forward which she did, slowly. as grace sat on that uncomfortable wooden stool, a million and one thoughts raced through her busy brain, the most popular being, 'this is a mistake, they've made a mistake. they're going to send me home. i'm not a witch. i didn't even do magic until i was ten.' although logically grace knew the sorting hat could read your thoughts and whisper words into your head, it still shocked the heck out of her when she heard the hat say, "this is not a mistake, child. this is what you were born to do." before declaring a moment later, "HUFFLEPUFF!"

as soon as lessons began, it was obvious from the start that grace was struggling with her classes as much as she tried her best to keep up with them. although she attempted to do all her homework and still practiced her magic as often as she could, other thoughts plagued her mind such as, "where am i going to practice my dancing?" because, after all, she couldn't lose her sight of becoming famous on broadway just because she'd started school, could she? distressed and distracted, grace visited her father one evening and confessed all her worries. neville paused for a moment, hesitating, before he divulged the secret room of requirement and how to use it. though originally skeptical, the room eventually became grace's go-to place for practicing her dancing and singing whilst she was at school.

it was in her first year that grace also struck up friendships with some people who would later become rather important people in her life: aria matthews, rosa rodriguez and cris vega. with the former two both in gryffindor, grace only got to really see them during classes and when she sought out their help with homework the morning before it was due. but as for cris, he was her fellow hufflepuff and was quick to become her best friend. they both shared a passion for music and he taught her how to play the guitar. it didn't take long before they were singing and composing together - even though they were eleven and cringe at the songs they'd invented back then, grace is still grateful for this experience.

a year later, grace commenced her second year at hogwarts, if only a little less nervously than she had the year before. after having a stern talking to from her father in the holidays, she cut down on her performing arts and shifted her focus more towards her school work. she even picked up tutoring in some of the subjects she was more terrible at - transfiguration, for one. although grace's marks started going upwards, it wasn't by much and she was still failing most of her subjects. this was also the year she befriended kieran bass who always tried his best to help her with whatever homework trouble she was having at the time. besides trying to improve upon her school marks and practicing her singing and dancing on the side, nothing too big happened for grace this year - or at least, nothing too memorable.

by the time third year came around, things started spicing up - not for her, but for the rest of her year. whilst grace had somewhat given up her previous efforts of trying so hard in school, the rest of her year were excelling in extra curricular activities such as snogging. being naturally quite innocent and naive, grace was oblivious to all this snogging business and she continued to make her way towards achieving her dream of broadway. over the year, she also developed a small crush on her friend kieran bass which she never pursued, convincing herself that he wouldn't fancy her back in a million years. she had a bit of an awful habit of turning bright red, rambling, and knocking over flowerpots around him that she'd rather not reminisce about now.

it was also in her third year that she befriended jake gullane, kieran's best friend, somebody had always intimidated her from afar, thanks to his somewhat badboy reputation. they had been paired up for an assignment and amazingly, they hit it off and started talking. they were complete polar opposites so this came as a pleasant surprise.

it was really only in her fourth year that grace began noticing that people were changing from kids to teenagers and for some reason, she didn't pay much heed to this fact - at least, until it became apparent that there was a lot more cattiness between fourteen year old's than there were with thirteen years old's. along with cattiness, also came the constant onslaught of the boys wolf-whistling towards the more attractive girls of the year like her friends aria and rosa... the latter of which some bad rumours starting popping up about that grace didn't want to believe.

things continued to be smooth sailing up until seventh year. nothing exciting really happened for grace between then and fourth year. she performed in a couple of summer plays, made some new friends, said goodbye to jake in fifth year as he left hogwarts and watched as her friends began and ended some relationships. however, grace herself still hadn't even been kissed by the time that seventh year came by... but that was soon to change when she met christian connelly, a boy that had always been in her year but she was too scared to talk to until she saw him terrorising fifth years in the library one day, struck up her courage and told him that, "i think you should stop that... i mean, it's not very nice and you wouldn't like it being done to you, now would you?" and amazingly, he did stop... and the next time they shared a charms lesson together, he actually sat next to her... and things developed from there.

grace's first kiss came a couple of months later when she and christian had gone on a trip to hogsmeade. they'd been in the middle of walking towards honeydukes when she'd suddenly been stopped in her tracks by christian standing in front of her, confessing that he fancied her, cupping her chin and swooping down to kiss her. grace's leg may or may not have popped up like in those old fashioned, black and white movies. from then on, they were a couple and it didn't take her very long to fall head over heels for him and vice versa.

of course, grace being grace, she didn't exactly jump into the intimate side of their relationship straight away. instead, she took it slow with christian which was more than frustrating for somebody who, uh, wasn't exactly inexperienced with the ladies. it took three months before she was ready to do more than just make-out and even then, that was just light touching over the clothes. she didn't go all the way with christian until they had both graduated and she was certain that being with him meant they'd be together forever. her one and only experience with sex was horribly awkward and uncomfortable and it was only a week later that christian broke up with her, ending their 18 month old relationship.

needless to say, grace was devastated because she thought they were in love and that a love like that was bound to last forever. of course, grace had always been a bit naive and even though her friends had warned her against christian from the start, she didn't believe the bad things they said. after all, she'd always lived by the motto that you don't judge a book by it's cover. for the next month, grace spent her time holed up in her room above the leaky cauldron (where she was working there as a waitress temporarily), crying and barely coming out of her room. only her closest friends knew what had happened and she felt ashamed, stupid, horrible. when she finally did come out of her room, it was after having a baking spree (mixed with tears) and she flooed to jake's house to impose food upon him and his daughter... and that was where she found him patching himself up. it didn't take grace long to figure out what had happened - jake getting in a fight with christian - and almost immediately, she was in tears again and started kissing him all over his face in gratitude before she stole the frozen bag of peas from his hand and started mending him up properly, still crying.

grace hasn't changed a lot from her days since there: she's still just as innocent, naive and sweet as ever. she looks for the greatness in everyone despite what they've done in their past and she puts her faith in them 100%... even though that doesn't always work out very well for her in the end. like everyone else, grace has her flaws. she's a pushover, too emotional, and her being so naive isn't always a good thing. she's had a few boyfriends since christian and they've all been pretty much the same type as him - it turns out 'badboy' is her type of man. however, she hasn't had sex since and her reluctance to get intimate with her boyfriends is often what pushes them away and leads to them breaking up. grace still waitresses when she's short on cash but these days, she's mainly singing at weddings and karaoke nights and bars. it's not quite broadway but that's still her number one aim in life... well, that, and falling in love with somebody wonderful.
