DAVID MATTHEW FELL
David Fell's mornings consist of three things in particular; a dose of extreme affection towards his cats, a hunt for clothes that may be somewhat passably clean, and coffee. His cats, Gin and Tonic, are highly important to him and what he considers, quite seriously, to be two of his greatest assets in life. He's thoroughly convinced that they are absolutely stellar at judging a person and regards their judgement very highly indeed. His friends often joke that he's going to end up completely alone, romantically speaking, stuck with his cats and a bottle of Firewhiskey years from now, but frankly he allows all of this to roll right off of him. It's rather true that he's not gotten laid in a very long time indeed - not since a one-night stand a great deal of months ago, and before then since his girlfriend who broke it off with him a couple of weeks after they finished school, while they were on holiday together. But he's very nonchalant about this particular fact of life, insisting that his cats are more than enough to keep him company, and anyways, he doesn't think he's very good in bed to boot. He's disgraced himself a number of times in morning-afters, where he's laughed or said something dreadfully weird or, if the poor girl has been so unlucky as to have been invited back to his room, they'll clock the fact that he's the biggest slob the world has ever had the misfortune to come by. At the age of twenty, he hardly comes across as the most responsible. He still is terribly reluctant to do his laundry and he can never find his tooth-brush and he cannot quite grip just how grocery shopping is done - he'll be sent out and return with eggs, catfood, a weird hat with bobbles on it and a whole bunch of other junk and then wonder why they never have any food. He maintains that it's the pasta; whenever he sees pasta in supermarkets he finds himself getting freaked out by how very adult and boring it seems and he has to turn around and march away very quickly. He still, also, comes out with very odd things, and will make a friend at the drop of the hat, and adores entertaining, and constantly invites people over to the apartment, so much so that he positively loses track. Honestly, someone could amble in and sit themselves down beside him and he'd probably shrug his shoulders and offer them food and hold Tonic up to inspect them (for Tonic is the tougher of the two cats). He marches to the beat of his own drum and things are often verging on the quirky side when around David. He lives with his three best mates, all of whom he's known since his Hogwarts days; Kieran Bass, pureblood, owner of a fantastic jawline and unable to find Nutella in a shop if his life depended on it; Rupert Hewer, younger brother of the Head of Gryffindor, who works with dragons and owns a dog who is nowhere near as cool as Gin and Tonic and who is altogether a great guy in David's opinion; and Jake Gullane, ex-Azkaban convict and father, although David, Kieran and Rupert didn't quite find out about the 'father' bit until recently. Still, David was surprised, but he's always had an uncanny knack of being very good at handling shocking information - there was a reason that he became sort of an Agony Aunt for everyone during his Hogwarts years, surprising as it is. He may seem like the completely wrong person to fall upon and tell your woes to, but he's good at being non-judgmental and he's terribly chilled out. Well, generally he's quite chilled out, but his job has certainly been kicking his ass for quite a while. David's always had a passion for travelling, and he likes moving around and finding new places and learning new things, but he's also always been incredibly intelligent and had always had it in his head that he'd quite like to be a healer. It's been a bit of struggle for him, because when he first starting training at St Mungo's, quite a few of the staff thought he was a bit of an odd bloke. He took it in his stride at first, because he is an odd bloke, but he cut his too-long hair after a while and tries to shave more and act a bit more professional. Nowadays he gets along with most of the staff - although they still maintain he's a bit odd - because he's good at making friends, and very relaxed, but the job itself is a strain and a half, and, although he doesn't want to whine about it, he sort of wishes he hadn't picked it. It's stressful and the hours are very rough and nowadays he doesn't spend as much time larking about with the others at home, because usually he's in bed. But David has always kept his problems to himself - he didn't even tell his friends when his girlfriend of a year broke up with him, he just sort of said it in an off-hand way one day - and so he doesn't even realise that most people around him have noticed that he's a bit off-colour as of recent. When he's up, however, and moving around, although he's usually sluggish and still a bit zapped, he'll act much the same as usual as he can. David hasn't always had a knack of making friends; in muggle primary school when he was younger he was known as the exceptionally weird kid, surveyed as a sissy because he was most certainly not into sport or any of the other stereotypical 'boy' things. His legs were like spaghetti when he ran, and he generally opted for drawing terribly or working on his sums or nattering away to whatever poor, unfortunate soul got stuck with 'that weird Fell kid'. He had a few other misfit mates, but he didn't really make friends until he got to Hogwarts. He was sorted into Hufflepuff, although the hat took its time; David was forced to sit patiently underneath it as it dithered between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff until it finally made up its mind. David, who hadn't really had a preference about whatever house he was in, was much more concerned with the welcoming feast. As the years went by, David Fell became popular, something he'd never been before, but something he didn't really take much stock of. He wasn't popular in the sense that he was viewed as gorgeous and hopelessly cool and beloved and infamous; it just transpired that he was popular because people found him funny, and he was spontaneous, and you never knew what he'd say next, and he was completely self-deprecating and, although sarcastic and dry at times, very decent. He was the sort of person who was popular without anyone quite figuring out how. He then began throwing parties, which gave him something of a legendary status; he was hilarious whilst drunk and despite his general daftness and inability to clean anything up in his dorm (his dorm-mates were at the end of their tethers) he could throw a bloody fantastic party, and so he often did. He lost his virginity in his fourth year, and he recalls it as equal parts hilarious, awkward and disturbing, and he didn't have a clue what he was doing, and the girl didn't look mightily impressed, either. He was also frequently having to creep up to one of his friends in the middle of the night and ask if they could spare a condom, because he was woeful at thinking ahead. He always did very well in his lessons and exams, because he had bucket loads of smarts, even if not common sense, and he was proclaimed by teachers all through his life as a natural at learning, and a decent, if slightly off-beat, boy who was always up for a laugh. He was frequently letting people copy his homework or helping them cheat on little class tests, sometimes due to boredom, sometimes because he just felt very sorry for them, seeing them all panicky. He supposes he's lucky, really, that the academic side of things came so easy to him. He's never been the most confident person - but he shrugs it off as much as he can, making jokes out of himself all the time - but he was confident about his work, just because he knew there was simply no point not to be. Aside from the occasional scrapes as a teenager, he's always gotten along very well with his parents, Katherine and Christopher. They're good people, and good parents, not too strict, but they were strict enough to make sure he never went wild, and they gave David what he considers to be the best thing he could ever hope for: his sense of humour. His sister, Eleanor, two years younger than him, is also one of his favourite people in the world. He and Eleanor come across as rather different on the surface, but they've both got similar humour and when they're together they can muck around like little kids. They don't talk that much, and Eleanor has never even visited him at the flat, but this isn't due to any arguments or strain; rather, they don't feel a push to talk all the time, and just enjoy their time together when they meet, although Eleanor frequently informs David that he ought to get laid, and it's embarrassing for him that his baby sister gets shagged more than he does. He's not overly protective, which is greatly appreciated by Eleanor, but he doesn't particularly notice it. He'll only ever tick her off if he thinks she's being mean - which she can be, but he has decided it's an act - to others, but generally it's only a mild reminder, because he thinks she seems to forget that not all people are as thick-skinned as him. He's also very close to his cousins, the Van Der Heuvels, Vera in particular. Their parents' marriage has fallen apart, and so David and Eleanor have always been close to the cousins, supporting them and offering them back-up and David is always at the ready to listen to Vera's problems. He's even given Vera a key to the flat, just so she knows she's always welcome. He expects her to come over whenever, even when he's not around, and help herself to anything, and just mull about. Their flat nearly always has extra people in it, because the four of them all have rather good social lives and David, at least, is not particularly private. All in all, things are mostly running smoothly in David's life, although he's not been going out that much and he's dithering about his job as a Healer, which really isn't turning out how he assumed it would be. He sort of wishes that he could be out and about, going on adventures, and while he thoroughly enjoys certain aspects of his job, and helping people to regain their health, it's very stressful and can be a massive strain and he feels he hasn't yet properly adjusted, even though he's been working there over a year. However, he's still frequently surrounded by his best mates, all of whom are part wanker, part legend, and a whole host of others, and - most importantly - he's still got Gin and Tonic to rely on. .
