ABIGAIL THERESA LONGBOTTOM
NICKNAMES: Resa, Abby AGE/DOB: 14, 29th July 2008 BUILD: She used to be short and flatchested, but she went through a growth spurt in the summer before sixth year and gained an inch or two. She also filled out a little, but she's still not very curvy. She's got well toned calves though, from running a lot. DISTINGUISHING FEATURES: Both ears, double pierced, A scar running through her eyebrow from when she was a child and had gone to her father's office. She also has bright blonde hair, which isn't natural. She started coloring it in her fifth year. Her natural hair is a dark brown. DISLIKES: Sugary foods, socks, the smell of detergent, cupcakes, the color blue, the smell of somebody smoking a cigarette, shoes without any heel at all LIKES: The Leaky Cauldron (obviously), dark chocolate, muggle iPods (she thought she'd get one when she saw her friends with them, and the rest is history), the smell of her coconut shampoo, her father's office, the smell she associates with her mother, Grace's accessories. BAD HABITS: She chews her nails a lot, even if they're painted, she has a habit of cutting her own bangs because she's too lazy to get it done, she has a tendency of getting over excited and demanding when something goes right for her, she brags at times. GOOD HABITS: Knows what she wants and how to get it, can be an excellent leader when given the chance, she's an early riser, studies hard even though she doesn't show it. WEAKNESSES: Her family, dark chocolate, people with confidence, oranges. STRENGTHS: Her confidence, her ability to take control and do it right, her conviction, knowing what she wants, ambitious PERSONALITY: Abby follows the quote "follow or be followed" to the tee. She doesn't work well with people. Either she's going to be the boss and give the orders, or be given orders and follow them religiously. She believes it's her Leo personality shining through. She knows how to have fun and loves to go to parties but if she had the choice between staying at home and working in the greenhouse or getting smashed with her friends, she's probably choose the first. She isn't good with handling crowds, not in the way that they scare her, but in the way that they annoy her. She's not exactly anti social but doesn't go out of her way to make somebody feel comfortable. She's also terribly insecure, which is why she considers her siblings a bit of a competition, especially Alice and tries to outshine them in every way possible. She also competes with Grace a lot, although nobody would know given how often she used to mimic Grace's mannerisms and clothes. But on some level she did it to 'beat Grace at her own game', so to say. She's cunning, clever and knows just what to do to get what she wants. Incredibly ambitious, she also has a tendency to become a bit selfish in her drive to get to her goals. When it comes to romance though, she's much more confident. She flirts a lot with people, and doesn't hesitate to show if she's interested. She's reserved in terms of relationships because her last one ended badly, and she doesn't want to repeat it. She's also not one to relinquish control until she trusts the other person, and makes the first move, usually. She's also terribly superstitious, taking extra care to not do anything on the Friday the 13ths or to break a mirror and such. She's actually very responsible in nature and would make a good leader and hopes to become prefect the term after the coming one. She also has a tendency of trying to escape from her problems. If anything seems imperfect to her, instead of fixing it, she'll turn her back to it because she feels like if she can forget it, then it's non existent. That is probably the reason she started running on athletic tracks and around her home from a young age. WAND: Beech, Thestral hair, 10 and a half inches LEAST FAVORITE CLASS : Potions FAVORITE CLASS: Herbology and Care of Magical Creatures MIRROR OF ERISED: To get married someday and live in a cottage, on a cliff by the sea with little blonde and brown haired children running all around who she can spoil to no extent whatsoever. She also wants to become a research herbologist. SECRETS. 1. She thinks she's incapable of a relationship, because her selfishness and power control will make her an unsuitable partner. Also, her last relationship ended because she cheated, and she doesn't trust herself to not hurt the people she loves. She hasn't forgiven her mistakes. 2. She really, truly does love Alice, but she's so annoying. 3. She wants to be just like her father someday. 4. She thinks that being selfish is a privilege which one should be happy to afford. Thinking about others is over rated. WORST MEMORY: When she was a young girl, she and Alice were out playing and Abby accidentally stepped on some loose, freshly dug earth and fell through. She was barely four and was stuck in the pit for nearly twenty minutes before Alice gave up trying to help her and called their mother. Although the pit wasn't that deep, it seemed too much for her and to this day it freaks her out. BEST MEMORYS: Getting sorted. She doesn't know why because it wasn't that big a deal but she felt like she'd found a bit of her identity. HISTORY: Abby was born to one of the most loving set of parents and sister there probably ever was. From a rather young age, she looked up to her father and Grace, following them around. She would trying to mimic her father's study, taking small children's sets of pales and shovels, digging away in the garden and sowing seeds. She'd watch her sister practice dance and try to mimic the movements before bed. She knew from a young age that she was going to be just like her father: brave and smart. For some reason though, she never could quite relate to her twin, Alice. She always truly felt like it was a mistake that Alice was born at the same time at her. She loves her, don't get her wrong, and would probably do anything in her power to help her when she needs her, but she just feels like a bit of her glory got stolen when Alice was born. It meant they were now the "Longbottom Twins" and she was merely a half of a whole, something she didn't like. She often wished that Alice was at least a year older or younger, because she knows on some level Alice doesn't deserve the annoyance Abby has towards her. (Over the years, their enmity has become worse, mostly thanks to Abby. She barely even looks at her now, let alone talks to her.) She was four years old when she started becoming superstitious and believing in karma, a frighteningly young age to do so. She'd been out playing in the backyard when she'd felt annoyed that Alice had come and joined her in her gardening. Irritated, she'd tried to shove her away and had instead lost her footing and fallen into a pit. When her mother finally helped her out and comforted her, she was too busy thinking that the only reason she'd fallen in was because she'd meant to push Alice in. It took her a long time to come to terms with this and then promised herself that if she ever tried to do something against somebody again, she'd never dig her own grave in the process. At the age of seven, she shower her first sign of magic. She was in her father's greenhouse and crying a lot because a plant of hers had died. It was the first time she'd been given total responsibility of a plant and it had died and she felt so devastated, she wouldn't stop sobbing. Her grief and disappointment at failure was so acute that the dead leaves which had fallen, immediately flashed green and then hovered over the mud for a second before falling again. That's one thing she's proud of, that her signs of magic came at an entirely different time than Alice's. When Abby got her acceptance to Hogwarts, she actually really wanted to get sorted into Gryffindor, like her father. She wanted to be part of the house known for loyalty and bravery. But when she was put in Slytherin, she slowly let go of that dream and tried hard to make friends in her new house. Eventually, she learned that the bad blood aside, Slytherin's traits included cunning, ambition and self preservation: three traits she valued a lot. She learned to love her house, despite feeling a loss of something she never had. It didn't help that Alice was a Gryffindor. In fact the whole first week, she cried whenever she saw any of the first years with their brand new, golden and red ties. However, her house finally grew on her and today she is proud to be a Slytherin. The summer before she started her second year, she got interested in muggle athletics and actually started running and jogging every day. Her mother once told her that this was not normal, since Abby never used to be physically active as a child. She asked her if something had prompted this, but Abby shrugged it off. Of course, she eventually realized that this was a metaphorical way for her to escape her problems. She's now rather good at it too, going for jogs anywhere she can find a place to. It was around her fourth year that she started to become more aware of her sexuality. Between the hormones, gossip and her own awareness of what romance was, she started to show interest in members of both the gender identities. She knew that it was perfectly normal (having grown up with a very open mindset), but there was still this hint of confusion at the back of her mind. She wondered if her family would accept who she thought she was, or if she'd ever find somebody who would also accept who she thought she was. At this point, her only experience romantically had been with two boys whom she'd only kissed for a minute or two. Neither had particularly meant anything. She used to wonder if she'd ever find love, or be capable of a relationship. Her first, and only relationship ever, was with a girl. One of her classmates, in fact. The difference between those boys she'd had crushes on and this girl was that she liked it not only when they kissed, but when it was her doing the kissing and nobody else. Abby really liked her and assumed they'd have a good relationship for a long while. Unfortunately, that did not happen. To this day, if somebody asked Abby why she cheated, she wouldn't be able to give you a straight answer. The truth was, and remains, is that she got caught up in a moment and acted before thinking on a thought that should never have been there. There is no sob story, no long tale to justify her wrong actions, nothing to redeem her. She liked her girlfriend a lot, and shouldn't have been thinking of another boy. But she did and she couldn't take it back even if she tried. Ever since then she's hasn't tried getting into a relationship, for fear of hurting herself and somebody else again. Instead, after she accepted the truth, she started seeing other people. By seeing, she means making out in broom closets and abandoned hallways. What made her disappointment worse was that this was the same year she'd lost the prefect position, something she'd been pining from. Between her heartbreak, guilt and failure upon failure, she hated herself more than she ever had. She passed her fifth year with five OWLs, ready to start the new year fresh. That summer, she went through a lot of changes and not all physical. She started working more on building her relations with people on a non romantic level. She started attending more parties, to boost her popularity and name among her peers. She died her hair blonde to try and perk her dark mood up. She studied harder, picking her NEWT years subjects carefully, and deciding on keeping less subjects so she could focus extensively on each one. She also lost her virginity. She'd tell you the details but she didn't think it was all that memorable, and it was only some Muggle she'd been hanging around for a few weeks. Returning for her sixth year, she's become a lot more confident than before, if that was even possible. Although all that confidence and ambition was seriously shaken last year, she's pulled through like the survivor she knows she's capable of becoming and is doing much better than she'd have imagined.
