Adaline Genevieve Beaumont
THE OVERVIEW: Adaline Beaumont, more commonly known to her friends as Addie, entered the world on August 10th, 2008, the youngest child and second daughter of William and Tessa Beaumont. At age sixteen (or almost there), she is every bit the image of a pampered princess -- slender, fair-skinned, bright-eyed, and smiling like she knows all your secrets. Her most distinguishing trait by far is her bright red hair, which she refuses to cut on the basis that it'll never look this pretty again. She might not be very tall or big in any way, but Addie can still be the center of attention anywhere she stands. To Addie, fashion is a performance, and so, you'll never find her in anything less than the current season's trends. Since she was a little girl, she has been determined to shine the brightest in any room she's in. If fashion is an art, Addie is a regular Monet. If her friends were to describe her in one word, it would probably be bright. Addie likes to be a ball of sunshine and energy, always the brightest one in the room, often steamrollering over people in her enthusiasm for life, drama, and anything else that catches her attention. She's very used to having attention when she wants it, and if she doesn't, she'll demand it. Gold is the only acceptable trophy for her in all aspects of life, looks, and love. THE BACKGROUND: Born into a life of silver spoons and fancy tea parties, Addie has never really lacked for anything. Both her parents come from upper-class families in the muggle world and their children are lucky enough to enjoy their family's wealth. Addie and her older siblings, Damian and Isabella, grew up amongst England's elite, surrounded by the rich and richer. Naturally, this sort of privilege has different effects on different children -- Addie, being the youngest and therefore the apple of her parents' eyes, was raised quite spoiled, and very happily so. She flourished under the attention her family bestowed upon her, probably moreso than did either of her siblings. Magic appeared in the lives of the Beaumonts when Addie was very young, before they could even send her away to the private boarding schools her siblings had attended. Her magic was very self-centered, changing little everyday things to suit her childish whims. It took quite a while for her parents to notice that her vegetables were turning into cupcakes behind their backs. Luckily, one of Addie's older cousins was exhibiting the same unnatural signs, and when he recieved his Hogwarts letter a few years ahead of her, the family breathed a sigh of relief. Though her parents tried to keep her as much on the same well-treaded path as her sister and the rest of her family, Addie simply wasn't meant for muggle private schools. By the time she actually recieved her own Hogwarts letter, most of her childhood family friends were thoroughly bewildered by her instances of magic, which her parents kept hushed up as best as they could. They tried their best to relate with her as they had Damian and Isabella, but it was a fair bit harder to connect to a magical child than a muggle one. And although Addie loves her parents dearly, the only person in the family she was ever truly close to after the discovery of her magic was her equally magical cousin, Seth. THE MAGIC YEARS: Upon reaching Hogwarts, Addie was, as most muggle-borns are, totally awestruck at the beauty and magnificence of the school and the world of magic that she was now a part of. Having grown up on fairytales and superheroes, she's always adored the idea of magic, even moreso when she discovered she had it. As an eleven-year-old girl staring up at a castle, Addie was in love -- to this day, she considers Hogwarts her favorite place in the world. That doesn't mean her joy wasn't offset by the realization that not only was she one of many here -- being rich and sent to exclusive schools makes a girl used to being special -- but that she was also looked down upon by select few people due to her background. Having always taken great pride in her background, in her long family history, and in her lineage, Addie gets very annoyed anytime someone tries to degrade her for being muggle-born. It happens less often over the years, as she has managed to cultivate a reputation of not standing for pureblood supremacy (her ability with choice hexes and jinxes doesn't hurt her cause). The Sorting Hat labored over whether to send her to Ravenclaw or Gryffindor for quite some time - although loyal, she was more used to things falling into her lap than working for them, and though amibitious, she already had the world at her fingertips at the tender age of eleven. There's no doubt she's brave, reckless, and quite loud, the way a number of Gryffindors are, but it ultimately decided to place her in Ravenclaw for her absolute joy in learning magic and new things about the world. Being exposed to various aspects of culture - art, music, philosophy, history, fashion, and literature - from a young age in her family, Addie developed a strong sense of creativity that serves her well in Ravenclaw. Her natural competitiveness helps as well. Addie is someone who makes friends very easily, always bubbly and cheerful, especially in surroundings where she's comfortable, like Hogwarts. However, she's also someone who makes enemies almost as easily - her rather brazen nature rubs many people the wrong way, and she's far too stubborn and self-assured to try to change their opinions. She's had quite a few fights and been in quite a bit of drama in her time at Hogwarts -- some call her a drama queen, which isn't all that untrue. Despite this, she's a true and loyal friend to those that have earned her affection, and plenty of people are naturally drawn to her energy and brightness. Probably too clever for her own good, as most Ravenclaws are, she relishes in the attention of friends and peers looking up to her, probably more than she enjoys any romantic attentions. Not that she hasn't had her fair share of boys - and the occasional girls - in the past, of course, but in all honesty, Addie is far too flighty for a long-term fully-committed relationship. She'd have to be seriously in love to handle that, and she just hasn't felt it yet. She tells her friends that she's waiting for the perfect guy, but the truth is, even if he were to appear, she's not sure how much she'd be willing to give up for love. She's reckless with a lot of things, but not with her heart. The closest she's ever come to love is a summer romance with a muggle guy before her fifth year began, and she let it end on account of having to keep such a huge secret from him. So far, nobody at Hogwarts has even gotten that close. Of course, part of that may also be because, being a true Ravenclaw, she does throw herself into her studies, wanting to soak up every last bit of information on the magical world that she can. It's been over five years, and Addie is still in love with magic, with Hogwarts, and with the Wizarding World in general. There's never anything she doesn't want to know about it, and when she's not out having fun with her friends, she's usually in the library, reading up on something that interests her for fun. This leads to her maybe not having the best grades in her year, but she's quite content to let some other Ravenclaw genius kid handle that. She's got a thirst for magical knowledge that History of Magic can't entirely sate. THE PERSONAL STUFF: There are quite a lot of things in this world that Addie loves, magic being chief among them. Fruit-scented perfumes and fruity drinks and fruits in general also top the list. She enjoys all sorts of art, from Van Gogh to fashion shows to the culinary arts, and she can still do a little ballet from taking classes when she was younger. She likes people who can make her laugh, and she especially likes jokes that make her think (if you give her riddles, she will love you). She loves her family more than she lets on, and her best friends hold a special place in her heart as well. Then, of course, there are things she doesn't like in this world, such as reality tv shows (her mother is addicted, and she doesn't understand why), vegetables, and shoes that hurt your feet. She doesn't at all buy into the "beauty is pain" philosophy, theorizing that if you look good, you should also feel good at the same time. She hates liars and lying both, which is why keeping magic secret from certain members of her family and her old childhood friends doesn't sit very well with her. She's also not a fan of horror or romance in books or movies, preferring action/adventure or comedy with a dash of romance instead. Most of all, she doesn't like not being the center of attention and she absolutely hates when people don't live up to her expectations. Optimistic, kind-hearted, and overwhelmingly loyal to those she loves, Addie is and always has been determined to make the most of her life. She's spoiled, but she's not ungrateful for her blessings, and she plans to enjoy her youth and her time at Hogwarts before setting out to brave the wizarding world on her own and carve her own path in her new home.
