MOTHER: Astoria Malfoy (nee Greengrass), 42, pureblood, ex-Slytherin, lady of the manor. As a young girl, Ella had a great relationship with her mother. But she started to pull away and become her own person, which her mother didn't take too well. Ella will always loves her mother, but she's afraid her mother hates her. FATHER: Draco Malfoy, 44, pureblood, ex-Slytherin, works for the Ministry. Recalling her childhood memories, Ella remembers her father being around more. He's distant now and she's frightened she'll lose him one way or another. She loves her father, despite his flaws, and is trying to reach out to him. SIBLINGS: 1) Scorpius Malfoy, 18, pureblood, Slytherin, the heir. They have had their ups and downs as siblings, but right now they are in a great spot. 2) Damien Malfoy, 17, pureblood, Slytherin. When Ella was institutionalized for a short few months, she and Damien weren't on good terms. They have thankfully moved passed that, and Ella is trying to be more involved in Damien's life. OTHER IMPORTANT FAMILY: 1) Lucius Malfoy, paternal grandfather, 70, pureblood, ex-Slytherin. Ella and Lucius share an odd relationship. Neither of them judge one another and have some weird respect for each other. 2) Narcissa Malfoy (nee Black), paternal grandmother, 69, pureblood, ex-Slytherin. Ella loves her grandmother and confides in her more than she does Draco or Astoria. When she was at the treatment centre, it was Narcissa she wrote all of the time. 3) Notus Greengrass, maternal grandfather, pureblood 4) Syrinx Greengrass, maternal grandmother, pureblood 5) Theodore Nott, uncle by marriage, 42, pureblood, ex-Slytherin 6) Daphne Nott (nee Greengrass), maternal aunt, 42, pureblood, ex-Slytherin 7) Sebastian Nott, male cousin, 18, pureblood, ex-Slytherin 8) Chloe Nott, female cousin, 18, pureblood, ex-Gryffindor 9) Andromeda Tonks, great aunt (paternal), 71, pureblood, ex-Slytherin 10) Teddy Lupin, third cousin (paternal), halfblood Being the youngest Malfoy child, Ella was often treated like most 'baby' siblings are. She was spolit, but she was also treated very delicately by her mother. She wasn't allowed to play roughly with her brothers; in fact, she wasn't allowed to do much of anything that the boys did. Ella grew up primarily by her mother's side, overprotected and sheltered. She attended teas and wore dresses. When Ella was younger, her family often did things together. They were much more connected and involved with one another. However, as the children began to age, Draco in particular started backing off. His personality seemed to changed; he started pushing Scorpius to be better, ignored Damien and gave Ella more gifts. Ella noted this change, even at a young age, but she didn't think much of it. She was just pleased when her father brought home a new toy for her. Around this time, Ella became a bit bratty. If she didn't get her way, she'd act out or sit quietly in her seat with a scowl on her face. But Astoria was always quick to reprimand and this behavior didn't go on for too terribly long. Spending so much time with her mother from an early age, Ella developed some of her mother's quirks. (Which she has yet to realize.) She's a perfectionist to a fault and also has OCD. Nothing is perfect unless it's set just the way Ella wants or whatever issue is fixed. Even then, Ella feels as if it isn't good enough. Both of these are what lead to the girl's first bout of eating disorders - EDNOS. Around age nine, Ella started being picky about the foods she ate. Certain foods 'tasted funny' or were 'too sweet' or 'too salty'. Eventually, due to the disconnected family life, Ella started making herself throw up. In addition, she started exercising like mad. She ran ridiculous amounts of miles, though she was really had no excess fat to lose. As the Malfoy's continued down their path of disunity, Ella's condition worsened. She started to starve herself and when she did eat, she forced it out. All of these actions were not because Ella thought she was fat. She felt as if the only thing she could control in her life was her body. She needed that control to keep herself grounded, to keep the world from spinning to fast. Despite her faults, it is possible for Ella to be a good and kind person. She's able (if she chooses) to look past others own faults and really see them for what they are. She's a good friend who'll defend any one of her friends if the situation warrants it. However, Ella also has an ugly side. She holds grudges and often doesn't let them go. Because of the family she came from, she can also believe that she's better than others. She is capable of being very jealous of others, especially if they have a better family life than she does. Though she's very bright when it comes to studies, Ella is a bit naive. She usually lives in a dreamworld, where everything is okay and goes smoothly. Because of this, she implodes her feelings. She won't tell someone how she honestly feels. Lately, though, she's gotten better at expressing herself - especially with her father (when they write to each other.) Ella has a lot of love to give (to family, friends, boys), but no one seems to take it from her and she finds it highly discouraging. Unlike the two boys before her, Chara Malfoy was born in the springtime - May 8th, to be exact. The day she was born, there was a slight drizzle. Ella, as she would later become known as, entered the world easily. She was deemed "perfect" by the Healers, after running the quick and various tests on her that they do to all babies after they're born. Her mother agreed. Following her mother-in-law's family tradition of naming children after stars or constellations, the baby girl was given the name "Chara", which is Greek for joy. She was given the name of a flower for her middle name, in honor of her grandmother. She received her nickname from Damien, who could not pronounce her name and decided to call her something that he could say. It stuck, and she's been called Ella ever since. Growing up in the Malfoy household, Ella was as privileged and as lucky as some only dreamed to be. She didn't have to worry about anything - money, where her next meal came from and so on. But growing up in such a household also means obligations and sometimes a little brainwashing. There was the "right sort" to socialize with (the Notts, who were her cousins; the Yaxleys and Rosiers, who were distantly related) and the "wrong sort" to socialize with (the Weasleys and the Potters.) As a young girl, she didn't understand why there was so much tension between her parents and the latter families. They were never publicly rude to one another, but they also didn't allow their children to play together. The way Ella sees it now, both families are at fault for not letting go of the past; yet her family seems to be the one blamed more often. Despite that, Ella didn't care who she played with and who she did not play with. She was a bright, active young girl and would rather spend a day playing in mud than on her mother's lap. Ella often tried to keep up with her brothers and the games they played. They were bigger, and boys, so naturally they didn't want their little sister trailing after them. The three were close, however - in fact, as a family, they were close. Ella remembers her parents as fun and interactive back then; now that she's older, sometimes she wonders if she imagined their attitudes. She doesn't bother asking anyone because those memories are happy and she doesn't want to lose them - real or made-up. Ella was three when her mother decided to put her ballet classes. She didn't like it at the beginning - the leotards were too tight and the shoes felt funny on her feet - but now it's something she can't imagine her life without. When Ella was nine, the year Scorpius got his Hogwarts acceptance letter and went away to school, she started having problems with food. She had never been a very picky eater (socialite lifestyle won't allow for it), so her family assumed it had something to do with Scorpius leaving. They reassured her that he would be back for Christmas and that in two years time, she could join him at the school. The reassurance did nothing for the girl. If anything, she was more inclined to make a fuss over eating the more that her parents tried to get her to eat. This would set the beginning of a continuous battle of eating disorders for the girl. Even to this day, she's not sure why her mind works the way it does. The only reason she can think of as to why her started to torture her mind and body was because she remembers watching the older ballerinas - thin, tall, and beautiful - at her ballet school. They looked so lovely and she wanted to be just like them. And of course she couldn't tell anyone that or her parents would stop her lessons. She didn't want that to happen. The first year Scorpius was gone, Ella missed him a lot. She was thankful to have Damien by her side. Having him around made the days better. But then came the time for Damien to go away to Hogwarts and Ella was lost completely. The days seemed to drag on, especially when it got closer to the Christmas holidays. She could hardly contain her excitement when her brothers returned home for their holiday. She was so glad to have them back home! Of course, the days they were home went by far too quickly and she was left alone once more. The only thing Ella had was ballet. She asked for some sort of pet, but was denied. By the time it was Ella's turn to go to Hogwarts, it was plain that the Malfoys were having some serious issues. It effected the children in different ways. Ella took her eating problems to a new level: vomiting after almost every meal. She knew that it wasn't normal, but she also knew that it was the only thing that made her feel any sort of control, so she kept it hidden. At some point during her first year, Ella got into a nasty fight with another first year girl in her dorm, Lucy Weasley. They became best friends after that. Ella strives to be the best. She continuously worked her mind, finding it easier to concentrate on school work than any problems she or her family members were having. Her first two years at Hogwarts passed without incident. By her third year, however, she had developed a crush on Albus Potter. They became quite good friends that year and almost kissed. After that, Albus seemed to avoid Ella or ignore her. She was very hurt, but didn't have to put up with his behavior for long. Her eating problems continued to worsen. Soon, she was skipping meals and essentially starving herself. Her growth and development was stunted. She didn't grow any breasts and she also didn't get her period when other girls did. Her body stayed flat and curve-less. She also didn't seem to inherit the "tall gene" like the rest of her family members. She pretended to not notice this differences and did her best to conceal her weight from her family and friends. She threw herself into her studies, concentrating on being the best when her stomach growled. This continued for over a year. A professor picked up that something was wrong and confronted the young girl. It took some time, but Ella eventually broke down and told her, promising that she'd tell her family. She never did. During the spring of her third year, Ella's eldest brother also confronted her about her weight. She denied everything and got angry with him; but days later, after feeling guilty, she told him the truth. Around that time, the same professor informed the Headmistress, who then contacted Draco and Astoria. Ella also told Damien and he had a bad reaction. He and Ella did not speak much after that. During the Easter holidays of 2022, Ella had The Talk with her parents. She didn't return to Hogwarts to finish her third year. She was sent to a treatment center instead, where she was permitted to do all of her coursework there. Ella was in the center from May to August. She returned home two weeks before starting her fourth year. Ella's fourth year was difficult. Thankfully, no one at the school knew where she had been (save for her brothers, family and Lucy), she she made up different stories all of the time. She felt embarrassed. She and Damien were on no better terms than when she left of the clinic earlier that year, which took it's toll. Ella needed her brothers - both of them. To not have Damien's support hurt her. In addition, she and Lucy got into their biggest argument yet. Everything seemed to be falling apart in front of the fourteen year old's eyes. Ella and Lucy managed to patch things up, which was good because she wasn't sure how she'd survive the year without her best friend and one of her brothers. It took some time, and some awkward talks, but eventually Ella and Damien began to get along again. The rest of the year was eventless until Scorpius announced that he was moving out of the manor. The news crushed Ella. She pretended to be happy for him, but her true feelings came out in the end and they got into a fight. Damien seemed to be going through a rough time as well. The summer directly after her fourth year, Scorpius got into a flying accident was hospitalized. It was what brought the siblings back together. Ella relapsed, but kept it hidden. Her fifth year, luckily, was quiet. She's lost more weight, but attempts to hide it through baggy clothes. She still doesn't like that Scorpius has moved out and she's waiting for the day Damien tells her he's leaving, too. She doesn't want to be alone in the manor. She knows she won't be able to handle it. HANNA 24 -5 GMT |
