there are four working secret passages out of hogwarts, many that were destroyed during the war having been reopened by ingenious and persistent students. very few know about their existence and how to use them, but those that do undoubtedly find them very handy. |

technically more inside the castle than out, there are several courtyards at hogwarts decorated with fountains, stone benches, and plants. they are pleasant places to hang out in the sun, but not so much fun when you've got to cross them in the rain to get to class. |

absolutely off-limits to students, the forbidden forest is a vast and dangerous place. home to an unfriendly herd of centaurs and a lot of other aggressive animals, it's best to steer clear of this place. |

the huge, deep lake that first years must cross when they first arrive at the school. home to the giant squid along with some grindylows and mermaids, the lake is a popular hang-out spot with students, especially in the summer - although even then it's too cold for all but the bravest souls to go into. |
