BRIGID EILIDH FINNIGAN
FULL NAME: brigid eilidh finnigan ETYMOLOGY: brigid: Pronounced "bridge-id". The name Brigid from brigh meaning “power, vigour, virtue” epitomizes the Irish genius for layering old and new. The main female deity of the Celts, Brigid made the land fruitful and animals multiply, she blessed poets and blacksmiths. Her namesake St. Brigid of Kildare carried her powers into the Christian era. The stories of Brigid”s compassion and miracles are told now as they have been for more than 1500 years in every part of Ireland. She is equal in esteem and shares a grave with St. Patrick and St. Columcille. Her feast day, February 1st, is the first day of Spring in the Celtic calender. eilidh: Pronounced "ay-lee". A variant of Ellie, it means "noble, exalted; sun ray, shining light; other, foreign; famous warrior". finnigan: Her father's surname, of Irish origin. It means "descendant of Finn". NICKNAMES: Bridge, Finny on the Quidditch pitch. Generally just Brigid or Finnigan. AGE/DOB: Twenty-two/November 5th, 2001 SPECIES: human, though her mother was attacked by a werewolf OCCUPATION: professional chaser WAND: Ash, Phoenix feather, 8 3/4 inches. Good at charms and protective spells. Unyielding. PETS: an absolutely mental kitten named vodka. black and white fur, and if the cat attacks someone, Brigid tends to be wary about them. Her kitten is probably not the best way to judge a person's character, but she doesn't care. FINANCIAL STATUS: quidditch pays extremely well, but living costs money too - who'd have thought? so about a quarter of that goes towards her rent, a quarter into savings and the rest gets spent on food and alcohol and concerts (though she get into some free, because of Tommy) so she's doing all right. A healthy medium. BODY TYPE: Brigid is very fit, due to intense Quidditch training. She is very slim and deceptively strong, and she doesn't have a large chest, and she doesn't really care, as her slight frame makes it easier for her to fly well. HEIGHT/WEIGHT: very slight, standing at 5'2"/157 cm and weighing 52 kg/121 pounds/8.6 stone BODY MODIFICATIONS: One piercing in each ear and a tattoo of a golden snitch right above her arse, so only people who've seen her naked know about it. LIKES: cats, dogs, music, The Fifth Horseman, The Weird Sisters, Quidditch, her team, her family, leggings, brooms, leather jackets, guys that respect her, people that respect themselves, being right, winning an argument against Tommy, people helping her, winning, alcohol, parties, concerts, red, gold, tattoos, protecting people, the satisfying feeling of punching someone that deserves it, muggle football. DISLIKES: birds as they are creepy as fuck (especially ducks), skanky girls (especially ones that throw themselves at Tommy), groupies, people touching anyone inappropriately/violation in general, people insulting her mother, opposing Quidditch teams (in the sense of rivalry, not actual dislike unless the players are awful people in her opinion), people insulting her Quidditch abilities, people that doubt her, people that hurt her friends or family, itchy clothing, being ill, losing, forgetting things, being embarrassed, being shown up, letting people down. STRENGTHS: being loyal - Brigid is super loyal and will protect her loved ones to the death; Quidditch - she lives and breathes Quidditch. It's what stands her out, she thinks, as more than just a pretty face and she works damned hard at it; reliability - she always does her best to be punctual and she tries not to make any promises she can't keep, because she takes promises very seriously and does her best to keep them; chilling out - for someone who's so Gryffindor with her protectiveness and attitude towards life, she's really good at chilling out and just having fun, though she's always ready to go into attack-mode if she feels the need to protect someone or something; she can hold her liquor quite well considering her small frame; she's really good with animals, especially cats; she's not afraid to get hurt or risk herself if it'll help what she considers a greater cause. WEAKNESSES: she hates admitting when she's wrong or has made a mistake because it feels like a personal failure; she is a sucker for cats - like, she would be late to her own funeral if she had to use beyond-the-grave forces to stop the hearse so a cat could cross the road safely or something. She adores all cats though Vodka is forever her favourite; she does not take losing well, at all; she has a quick temper, especially when someone she loves is hurt and she is unafraid of resorting to violence, which is something she isn't proud of - she wishes she was more capable of thinking things through, but Brigid has always been impulsive and somewhat brash, and she finds it highly doubtful that she'll ever manage to control that part of her, so she just deals with it. She's not big on complaining. HABITS/QUIRKS: She trusts Vodka's opinion on people more than she should, especially considering that the kitten is absolutely fucking mental and runs around her flat bouncing off the walls. Whenever she wears socks, they must be mismatched. She actually prefers her coffee iced though she'll drink both hot and chilled quite happily. WISHES/GOALS: She would love her team to win next year's Quidditch league. She also wants The Fifth Horseman to win a highly prestigious wizarding music award. She also wants Moira to achieve her fashion dreams and for her whole family to basically be happy. FEARS: birds, especially ducks - their eyes terrify her, always watching her... Getting drunk and being taken advantage of - this happening to her or anyone she cares about. Werewolves, due to her mother's experience with Fenrir Greyback. BOGGART: She is absolutely terrified that both her parents will just drop dead. She has four siblings in school and she, Tommy and Cara are still kids at heart. They need their parents, and they could not take care of themselves, let alone the other four. It is the worst thing she could ever imagine. The physical form is her parents' graves, dated whatever the date is of that specific day. MIRROR OF ERISED: To be part of a Quidditch-World-Cup-winning team. She would see herself holding the QWC trophy with an ecstatic team. DEMENTOR: When Tommy told her about his girlfriend cheating on him multiple times. She's never seen him look so broken and the memory haunts her at times. She'll be damned if she let's that ever happen again. PATRONUS: When she won her first game as part of a professional team. She was ecstatic because she'd scored some goals and her entire family as well as the Thomas' and her friends had come to see and she'd proved to the doubters that she deserved her spot. Form is a lioness, as cliché as it seems for a cat-loving Gryffindor. VERITASERUM: 1) She punched her brother's ex for cheating on him four times and she doesn't regret it at all. 2)She lost her virginity at an after party to a teammate after Gryffindor won the Quidditch cup at Hogwarts and she actually had a huge crush on him and never told him. 3) She argues with Tommy all the time but there isn't anyone in the world that she would ever let hurt him. 4) She hates groupies and regularly hexes them and such purely because they annoy her. She knows it's petty but can't bring herself to care. 5) She wishes she looked more like her mother did as a teenager just because she knows her mother was truly beautiful and she sometimes wishes she was more than just pretty. 6) She despises girls that judge their worth by guys' opinions. 7) She always disliked her brother's cheating ex but didn't tell him, and she regrets it because she could have saved him heartache. AMORTENTIA:the musky wood smell of a broomstick; her mother's famous shortbread cookies; her father's smell when she hugs him; Moira's shampoo; the smell of leather OVERALL PERSONALITY: LOYAL;; Brigid is loyal to a fault. This girl would choose her family over reason pretty much every time, and the same goes for friends. If it ever came between friends and family, it would involve a lot of drinking and consultation of her cat but she would strive for a solution to it without betraying either's trust and she'd be determined to fix whatever was making her choose. CONFRONTATIONAL;; Brigid isn't overly rude, but she's not the type to beat around the bush. She sticks to her guns and doesn't take shit from people. She's a tad brash and abrasive for some people, but she's generally lovely, just impulsive and quite impatient. She hates backing down and her motto is pretty much "challenge accepted". She isn't afraid to tell people what she thinks of them and she's a good person, but she's brave enough to say hard things and ask difficult and probing questions. COMPETITIVE;; Brigid loves to win. She doesn't cheat, but she can play so dirty that it may as well be cheating - as a general rule, this doesn't apply to Quidditch as she thinks the sport is sacred [there is one notable exception when at the game for the Quidditch House Cup, the Gryffindor seeker was about to catch the snitch which would give Gryffindor the cup but the opposing team was about to put in a goal which would mean they drew with Gryffindor as they had an obscene amount of points due to goals and so Brigid, in a fit of impulsive desperation, had flown in front of the opposing team's seeker and had lifted up her Quidditch robes and top to show her lacy purple bra, effectively shocking the boy on the other team into dropping the quaffle and allowing the seeker time to the snitch. It was a dirty move but worth it, in Brigid's mind] - especially if it's a rivalry she holds dear or some kind of game with her siblings, in which they all cheat outrageously. SHORT-TEMPERED;; She hexes groupies because they annoy her with their lack of self-respect, she punched her brother's cheating ex with no qualms and would gladly do so again, she is forever bickering with Tommy because they're similar enough to clash more than most and she will happily hit any person that violates a loved one in any way. She does not have a lot of patience, clearly, and has both a short fuse and a penchant for violence - she blames growing up with a brother so close in age, though she knows perfectly well that it isn't Tommy's fault in the slightest. She is quick to irritation and also quick to knee an aggravating bloke in the balls. PROTECTIVE;; Brigid is extraordinarily protective of her loved ones. She honestly cares about people, especially family and friends and she can't bear the thought of any of them being hurt, especially if she could do something to prevent it. She's extremely cautious about people approaching her siblings with possible ideas of romance after what happened to Tommy - if she had said something about her dislike of the girl, she may have been able to save him from heartbreak (though she doubts it, because he's just as stubborn as Brigid). She just wants to take care of everyone she loves and keep them safe. Her boggart stems from this, because if her parents died, she would have failed them by allowing them to die and then she'd fail everyone else by not being able to bring up her family and tell them it was all okay. She has quite a protective nature. FATHER: Seamus Finnigan, 42, Auror, halfblood MOTHER: Lavender Finnigan (née Brown), 42, stay-at-home Mum, pureblood SIBLINGS: *all siblings are halfbloods Tommy [Thomas] Declan Finnigan, male, twenty-three Cara/Caragh -- Finnigan, female, twenty Moira Teagan Adara Finnigan, female,ex-Hufflepuff Siobhan -- Finnigan, female, third year, Slytherin Patrick Cahlbach Finnigan, male, second year, Gryffindor Megan/Meghan -- Finnigan, female, first year, Ravenclaw OTHER IMPORTANT FIGURES: she considers the Thomas family like cousins, that is all. OVERALL HISTORY: Brigid was born on the 5th of November, 2001 to the young Seamus and Lavender Finnigan. At that point, they only had one other child, her brother Tommy, and she and Tommy fought like cats and dogs, despite their young age. In fact, by the time Cara was born two years later, their parents had resorted to threatening to send them off to their Grandmother's for a week in order to get them to behave. This proved to be the most effective way to shut them up. Over the years, more and more children were born - five followed Brigid, in fact - but Brigid was basically always to be found bickering with Tommy or talking to Cara and Moira, the next two children, both of whom were quieter than the first two. Moira had been born when Brigid was five, and she was the last kid that Brigid really thought of as both a friend and a sister. She loved her entire family, of course, but she considered them siblings that she must protect more than anything, whereas Tommy, Cara and Moira were closer to her in age and she spent her childhood with these three. It was around Moira's birth when Tommy got fascinated with music, something that would affect Brigid far more than anyone would realise. With Tommy always being preoccupied with listening to music, Brigid was at a loss as to what to do. Yes, she had Cara and a fascinating new sister but Brigid thought that baby Moira was a toy to play dress up with and had been rather affronted when her mother had banned her from doing so. The problem with Cara was that she was too quiet and she preferred to watch their mother and Moira, and so Brigid found herself either on her own or with her father much of the time. This would be when her interest in Quidditch sparked. She'd listen to the radio with her father and hear about it and her dad would read it out to her from the sports section of the Prophet and she'd love it. She was a total daddy's girl and she adored having his undivided attention. Soon after realising his daughter loved Quidditch as well, he began teaching her to play and fly (and her mother couldn't protest, being busy with the multitude of children). However, Brigid loved it best when Uncle Dean would come over and teach her as well - she loved her Daddy, but Uncle Dean was more patient and a better teacher. He also sparked a mild interest in muggle football for her. By the time she was eight, Brigid was an avid Quidditch fan and supported the Ludlow Teucrians, much to her father's chagrin and Uncle Dean's amusement. Her sister Siobhan had been born by this point and Brigid was thoroughly uninterested in the shapeless pink blob - she preferred them once they had hair and actual body shapes, she told Tommy once - that her mother never let go of. This was also the time Tommy found his calling. They'd been walking home from their muggle primary school with their sister Cara and had picked Moira up from her day-care centre when Tommy had convinced them all to sneak into the community centre, where they'd listened to a drumming lesson. After that, Tommy had made them run home - Brigid had been carrying Moira and Tommy had six year old Cara on his back - and he'd begged their mother for drumming lessons. The four siblings had eavesdropped on their parents' decision and had all been delighted for Tommy when they'd heard that he would be allowed to. The family didn't have much money by that point, so Tommy's drum lessons meant that Brigid couldn't get the broom she desperately wanted, and she tried being mad at her brother for about a month before realising that she couldn't begrudge him something that made him so happy. Her Uncle Dean noticed her change in behaviour towards her brother after a solid month of glares, and mentioned it to her parents, who promptly began saving up for a broom to give their daughter on her twelfth birthday, so she could have a broom by the time she'd be allowed to try out for her house team. The next year, when Brigid was nine, her only other brother was born. This excited her so much that when she heard, she actually levitated. Once her parents got over their shock, they were ecstatic that she'd displayed her first sign of magic because they'd been worried that she wouldn't show any at all (though Seamus later informed his wife that he always knew she'd show it because she couldn't be a squib with such talent on the broom, to which Lavender promptly whacked his arm lightly), if slightly bemused that she'd displayed it in the form of levitation. They were mostly just grateful that she hadn't followed in Tommy and Seamus' footsteps of blowing everything up. The next year, her final sibling was born and Tommy got his Hogwarts letter. He cried when he had to leave his family behind - a memory Brigid cherishes because it made her feel less weak about missing him the second he left - and she respects her brother for that, odd as it seems, because she thinks showing feelings is more courageous than seeming tough when you're surrounded by people that matter. She was unsurprised to hear he was a Gryffindor. She resented him a bit, for leaving her alone with five siblings all smaller and different to her - she learnt a lot about herself that year. She realised that the reason she and Tommy always fought was because they were so similar and so close in age, and that despite their constant bickering, he was the sibling she needed most. They had a volatile relationship - they were constantly at each other's throats but if anybody else tried to hurt Tommy, they'd have hell to pay from Brigid, and vice versa. It wasn't until he was gone that she understood how much she'd miss him, and how unlike everyone else she was. She spent most of her time with five year old Moira and eight year old Cara and dutifully helped her mother when necessary, but her favourite time of the day was when she and her dad could fly around the backyard. She got her Hogwarts letter when she turned eleven, just like her brother. Unlike her brother, she wasn't in a hospital but was in fact preparing to go see the Guy Fawkes' fireworks with her family. She was very unimpressed at having to wait nearly a whole ten months until she could go, but when she did, she was sorely tempted to stay behind and miss the train, and possibly would have if her mother hadn't told her that Hogwarts would be the best experience of her life. Brigid was sorted into Gryffindor, the hat barely touching her head. She ran to the table, where she would meet some of the people that she would vow to stay in touch with forever - a vow she would keep. Her first year at Hogwarts passed reasonably uneventfully - arguments with Tommy, interactions with Tommy's friends that made them either love her or hate her, prank wars with fellow first years, particularly one Jaime Carmichael, whom would eventually become her best friend, and just adjusting to life at Hogwarts. In her second year, she trialled for the Quidditch team and became Gryffindor chaser. She had no delusions about the role - she was only a second year, and wouldn't have been picked if the fifth year reserve chaser from the year before hadn't been ill with dragon pox. She vowed to work hard and she truly earned her place on the team, eventually outperforming more experienced players on both her own team and opposing ones. When trials came again in the following years, she was chosen again easily. As she grew older, she kept tabs upon her siblings. It was harder with Siobhan, Patrick and Meghan, who were never at Hogwarts at the same time as her, but Tommy and Cara (and later, Moira) were always being guarded by Brigid - even if they didn't know it. Therefore, when Brigid first heard about how Tommy had lost his virginity to this 'girl that sang like no other', this girl he made music with, Brigid kept an eye on her. She decided rather quickly that she didn't like her, but didn't disclose this opinion to Tommy. She regrets that she didn't because she could have saved him from heartbreak, but what's done is done. A year later, when she heard that the girl had cheated on Tommy, she was furious. Her brother was a good person and he was in love with the girl, anyone could see that, and the girl had the nerve to cheat on him? She'd hexed the girl for that so she couldn't walk straight for a week and told her that if it happened again, she would get more than just a hex. She was unhappy with the news that Tommy wasn't dumping her so she had warned her. When Tommy came to her later and asked for her opinion on what he should do after she cheated on him three more times, Brigid told him to dump her, and Cara and Moira agreed. The following day, she went up to the girl and punched her in front of all the girl's friends so that she had a black eye, and told her she was an arrogant, idiotic twat that didn't deserve her brother. Brigid ended up going to the hospital wing to get her knuckle stitched up as she split the skin on her knuckle with the force of her punch, but she thinks it's worth it and when her brother asked about her injured hand, she said it was just an accident from Quidditch training. She is the only person to date that Brigid has ever truly hated. As far as she knows, Tommy has no idea that Brigid did that for him, and she'd rather he didn't, because she's not sure how well he'd take his little sister punching the only girl he's ever loved, no matter how horrid she was to him. She graduated school and was delighted when the coach for her favourite team approached her to ask her to trial for the open chasing position. Landing the position, she quickly became one of the team, and one of the youngest players that year, having just come out of school. Many doubted her, but she worked a lot harder than every player but Xander Hawkley to prove that she deserved her spot and was more than just a pretty face. She also went along to The Fifth Horseman's first gigs and cheered the loudest when they got signed - whilst arguing with Tommy, of course. She went to see one of their concerts on their tour with the Weird Sisters - who Tommy had made her listen to at a young age and she loved - and she trained a lot for Quidditch. She still kept tabs on her siblings and she worries about Moira and Siobhan the most, because she thinks of Moira as the most fragile and Siobhan as the most excluded, being the sole Slytherin in the family. She talks to her entire family on a regular basis, as well as all her friends, both from Hogwarts and post-Hogwarts. She currently shares an apartment with Jaime Carmichael, a boy from Hogwarts: they used to bicker all the time, but somewhere along the way, they got to know each other better than nearly anybody else and became best friends. She's still not entirely sure how it happened, but now she's got a mate that'll always watch her back, tease her, take her teasing and still know exactly what she needs, sometimes before even she knows it herself.
