DOB: September 1, 2008 This story really starts with one Parvati Patil. Older than her sister by one measly minute, Parvati was the polar opposite of Padma, despite their identical looks. Parvati was shallow, vain, and put too much stock in the words of whatever future-telling device she could get her hands on. She liked to consider herself the better twin, the more popular twin, or even the prettier twin, while Padma was the bookish one. It didn't matter that Parvati wasn't the best in her subjects - she aced Divination, and that, to her, was all she needed in her future. That, and popularity, of course. Parvati did everything she could to become popular while in school. She prided herself in being one of the most beautiful girls in her year - as attested by her own classmates - and clearly being a top-dog after she was taken to the Yule Ball by a Champion. Furthermore, she loved how her future was shaping up, as told by the crystal ball under her fingers in Trelawney's classes, and she just couldn't wait to start living her life. So of course, when her parents began to talk of marriage and that handsome, nice Indian boy - of course, what else would Parvati do, but run away? Her glamorous future did not rest in the hands of being married at twenty to that boy she'd never met. She'd taken off the moment his name was dropped, not wanting her parents to think of even the slightest possibility that she was okay with this. And therein started her mission in life: to do the exact opposite of everything her parents said. She was a young independent woman, she didn't need a ring on her finger. She didn't mind a man on her arm or his money in her purse, but she didn't need his last name nor his undying love. Everything changed when she found herself pregnant. He was supposed to be just a one-night stand. And although Parvati was who she was, she could never bring herself to abort her baby. What she'd planned to do was simply hide in a cave, lick her wounds, and raise her baby by herself. What her future didn't tell her was that her one-night stand was lived right next door to her rented room in the Hog's Head four months after that night. She accidentally let slip how far along she was, he'd connected the dots, and that was that. Nothing would be the same for her again. Still, she figured out easily enough that marriage to him would piss her parents off. He'd been a Slytherin, two years younger than her, with no clear career or means to money (he was actually waiting for his great-Uncle to die and leave him an inheritance). He'd scraped through his NEWTs, had no intention in life other than to relax and spend the leftover money from his first inheritance (from his other great-Uncle). That's why she'd chosen to sleep with him in the first place. What she hadn't counted on was that Vaisey would see this as a sort of 'redemption' for him, a means to escape his old life, which he'd been increasingly frustrated with. They'd gotten engaged, much to the consternation of her parents, who steadfastly refused to talk to her. She hadn't minded, really, and had no intention of talking to them, either, until Vaisey contacted them when she was in the hospital ready to give birth. That had thrown a wrench in the whole thing, as Mr and Mrs Patil hadn't actually known she was pregnant, but still, they put aside their grudge against their daughter for the daughter that she was about to have. Parvati and Richard were married three months after Valerie Pooja Vaisey was born. Still insisting on her personal vendetta against her parents (at that point in time, she didn't even know why she needed to go against everything they say or ideals they want), Parvati gave her baby girl a distinctly non-Indian name. Richard, on the other hand, insisted that they give her an Indian name, too, to appease her parents, and compromised with her by giving Valerie an Indian middle name. Now that she had a child, the air around Parvati's head cleared a little. Just a little. Enough to send her to Diagon Alley to apply for a position at Madam Malkin's. Richard also tried to find a job, and with Parvati's insistence, applied for a position as Chaser for the Chudley Cannons. His drive to win, as well as his vastly-improved Quidditch skills, caused him to be bought over by the Ballycastle Bats and eventually, Puddlemere United. This suited Parvati just fine, as it meant popularity and money, even if he was away a lot and she had to look after her daughter mostly by herself. Parvati didn't have much patience with Valerie, giving her whatever she wanted as long as she didn't cry, letting Parvati do whatever she wanted in the meantime (usually designing clothes or whatever). Hence, Valerie grew up spoiled and bratty, needing to have her way all the time and throwing impressive tantrums whenever she didn't. This worsened when her little sister, Vivienne Pushpa, came into the world, the result of an overly-passionate return of Richard Vaisey after a particularly successful Puddlemere United win. Vivienne was different from her older sister. She was a bubbly child, content to crawl around while her older sister hoarded the toys. She was always smiling and laughing, which made her the favourite of her grandparents. This caused her older sister's dislike towards her to increase, to the point that Valerie used whatever means she could to make Vivienne cry. Vivienne would try her best to tolerate her, but as the then-baby of the family, she figured she could cry and get her way just as much as Valerie used to. The fights between the siblings often caused Vivienne to be left at her grandparents' house, meaning she was much closer to them and to her cousins, her Aunt Padma's children Dhruv and Tanya. Because she was the only baby at her grandparents' house, she was also often spoiled, especially because they loved her so much. It came to the point that whenever she was dropped back home by grandparents, there'd be an instant squabble between the sisters, which resulted in much hair-pulling and screaming. As if having two hellions on her hands wasn't enough, Parvati decided to enjoy a third (or was it fourth?) honeymoon with Vaisey, resulting in the youngest of the girls: Vanessa Padma. The arrival of the third sister took much of the focus off Vivienne. She'd always be the favourite of her grandparents', and so she was often left in their care, while Parvati wrestled the two others apart from each other. Vanessa became Valerie's new target, because while Vivienne knew which parts of the toy chest or the house or the bedroom belonged to Valerie, Vanessa had no qualms, and insisted on poking her fingers everywhere. Therefore, the biggest sibling rivalry was between the oldest and the youngest, with the middle quietly stepping out of the drama. This was much how Vivienne grew up. She was still like a ray of sunshine with a smile that could melt ice, but she mostly kept out of other people's way. She had a mean streak, especially when she couldn't get what she wanted, but all in all, Vivi was a bright girl. She was the kind of girl that most others took advantage of, because of her easygoing nature, but whoever tried to screw her over would be surely regret their actions, because she'll fight tooth and nail to get her revenge. She's also been a bit of a brat, which became more subtle as she grew older, but still came out when she most wanted it to. For example, on her 11th birthday (which just so unfortunately happened to be September 1), she'd accompanied her parents and sisters to Platform 9 and 3/4, having extracted a promise from her mother (without knowledge of her father) the night before that she'd be able to go on the train because she'd be 11 on the first day of school. That, unfortunately, had not been the case, as she'd not gotten her Hogwarts acceptance letter. She'd thrown her biggest public tantrum in an effort to get on the train, and had only been marginally pacified by the lure of shopping in Diagon Alley for whatever her heart desired. Her father had to sweeten the cake by promising to buy her everything she wanted, including the latest racing broom, both a cat and an owl, a fancy set of quills and parchment, and a starter set of cauldrons and ingredients for Potions. When she finally went to Hogwarts, she was sorted into Slytherin like her older sister. At first, everyone was confused - Valerie was clearly, distinctly Slytherin, but her younger sister with the wide eyes and fresh smile? Surely there was a mistake there somewhere? That was, until a month later, a boy in her year "stumbled" into her, causing her to drop her heavy textbooks - and she'd retaliated by Levitating said pile of books and dropping them on his head. Her housemates welcomed her with open arms after that. She grew up amongst her friends, a ray of light amidst the icicles. She loved to bring a little warmth into the dark, damp common room. She also loved to laugh, and she could be loud and brilliant, but only amongst her friends. To outsiders, she was often closed off, albeit with a shiny smile that invited you to come closer and get to know her. Her friends call her the Flower, because while she's soft and pretty, she's also incredibly naive. She doesn't know much about boys, preferring to leave that territory uncharted. To this day, her relationship with her sisters are cold at best, and she prefers to spend her breaks at her grandparents'. There are occasional moments where the sisters bond, most often either Valerie and Vivienne, or Vivienne and Vanessa, but then something would break the moment and they'd go back to being picky with each other. Vivienne doesn't particularly mind, though. She's happy the way she is. NANIIEH TWENTEH GMTEH+1EH |
