this is a harry potter roleplay game. we've reworded some of the fight club rules to reflect our forum! we realise these are lengthier than the average forum, but previous experience has proven them all necessary.
the rules of CASUISTRY
you do not talk about casuistry . -------------------- out of character
01) firstly, respect each other. this is the basis of every single thing in the world. we have an area for debating, but please do it in a non-offensive way. hence debate. not everyone will agree with you or your opinion, so please do not get upset. it's okay to have a difference of opinion. also, please do not push your beliefs down anyone's throats. respect each others religions, sexuality, etc. in addition, no discrimination. publicly, privately or otherwise. if someone PMs you and you feel threatened/discriminated against, contact an admin right away.
02) you must register before posting an application. proboards is different from invisionfree in that, when you register, your username can be anything, and you can change it once you've been accepted. also, do not post anywhere but the c-box or the face claim thread until your application is accepted. this means no general chat (sorry!), no games, no roleplaying, etc.
03) make sure to reserve your face claim either before or after you post your application! if you're going to take a few days to complete your app, we suggest reserving right away.
04) ideas to better the site are welcome! we have an ideas board. please post there with a new topic! it may take us a few days to respond, so sit tight.
05) the admins reserve the right to take up to at least 72 hours to look over and accept an application. if we have not posted after 72 hours (3 days), you may bump the application.
06) using curse words is allowed.
07) reservations for canon characters (which is any character listed on our canon list) last for two weeks, unless otherwise stated by an admin. WE DO NOT ALLOW COMPETITIONS. competitions are when two or more people register at about the same time, and apply for the same character. the admins wait until they're finished before looking over each application and picking the one they like best. we're not down with doing this, we don't feel it's fair. if this situation occurs, the character will be given to whoever reserved the character in the canon list first.
08) ask, don't tell. admins are here to make the game enjoyable for everyone. we're all quite laid back and sometimes people think it's okay to tell us to do something instead of asking. we don't really appreciate it. (just a hint, please and thank you go a long way!)
09) please try to refrain from using a lot of chatspeak. things like 'lol', 'lmfao', 'brb', 'gfto', etc are permitted, but try not to type lyk tHiS cuz itz prity aNNoYInG.
10) to our already accepted members: DO NOT POST ON UNACCEPTED APPLICATIONS. for any reason. if there is an issue with an application, an admin will get to it. do not self-appoint yourself to an admin.
11) for every three female characters you have, your fourth must be male.
12) you must have at least seen the harry potter movies in order to be a member here. we're not a multi-fandom/fantasy roleplay.
13) you must wait at least two weeks after making your first character before making a second, and in that time, you must have been actively roleplaying your first character in at least one thread.

01) once you've been accepted, please change your username to your character's name with correct capitalisation. like this: Sirius Black. not SIRIUS BLACK or sirius o. black.
02) characters are allowed to swear, drink, do drugs, have sex, etc. we encourage subplots. HOWEVER, it is against proboards TOS to have graphic sexual posts. so please kindly "fade to black" when your characters are going to do it. we'll get the picture.
03) do not god-mod. (god-modding is when your make someone else's character do something without their owners permission.) you may only god-mod if the other person says it's okay.
04) you may have a total of 6 characters. anything more than that must be approved by an admin.
05) we do not encourage mary-sues/gary stews. what are they, you ask? they are essentially characters that are too perfect to be realistic - for example beautiful, charming, selfless, friends with everyone, extremely talented at everything they try, and so forth. please refer to this wiki page for more info on what a mary sue is.
06) one character per account! make new accounts for new characters.
07) if you'd like your character to get pregnant or to be murdered, please PM an admin. we can't have too many of these plots or it becomes a trifle ridiculous.
08) all roleplaying MUST be done in 3rd-person, past-tense. this means, she went to the lake and sat down. not, i sit down on the shore.
09) your character may be in more than one place at once.
10) we don't have a word count, but we do encourage that you attempt to meet the length of the post you're replying to.
11) please use proper grammar and punctuation whilst roleplaying! (this means no chat speak during a thread.)
12) you may change a character's face claim. but please run it by an admin before you do so!
13) regarding canon characters... unless you've posted that you'll be away for an extended period of time, your canon character(s) will be taken away if you do not roleplay them for two weeks. do not join us and snag a canon character only to disappear a few weeks later. that's not cool.
14) characters may not 'read' other characters' journals (or, by obvious extension, write in them) without explicit permission from the person who plays that character. and permission granted once does mean permission granted open-endedly. you may not assume your character 'knows' something about another character because they read it in their diary, and you may certainly not write any IC comments in other people's diary threads without the aforementioned permission. people write their characters' secrets in there. if your character 'discovers' these secrets, you may well be messing up their plots.
15) while we actively encourage the use of templates in things like plot ads, thread templates are not permitted. we feel they distract from the business of writing and people become more focused on how their threads are looking that what they really contain. templates are allowed everywhere else on the forum, just please keep your threads plain and simple.
16) we allow transfer students.
no brooms, no wands . -------------------- graphics
01) avatars are mandatory but signatures are up to you.
02) one signature per account. our mini-profiles require one 100x100 icon which you upload/link under "avatar" in your profile, and one 200x300 icon. to install this larger icon you need to go to profile > edit profile > personal and scroll down until you find hover image, where you must enter the link to where you have uploaded the avatar on an image-hosting site such as photobucket or imgr.
if you have a signature it must be no taller than 250px including any text.
03) DO NOT HOTLINK. upload your graphics to a photo-hosting website such as photobucket, tinypic, etc.
04) CREDIT. if you snagged your signature from an artist at caution or shadowplay or anywhere else, you had better credit them! we will severely penalise any member found to have been stealing graphics.
05) good places to find graphics are: caution, shadowplay, a thousand fireflies, or red carpet & rebellion.
06) the most important thing is that graphics should not stretch the board!
07) your playby must be an actor, actress, model or musician. no youtube faces, no internet sensations, etc. in addition, no playbys under the age of 13 are permitted on this site. it's kind of against federal law. this latter is a law, not just our rules!
duels will go on as long as they have to . -------------------- miscellaneous
01) let us know if you're going to be away for a long time, or if you're leaving us.
02) if you'd like to join a family on the canon list, but all of the spots are taken, pm an admin. there may be a chance you can join. however, the last decision is up to the members who play the characters of said family.
03) please don't spam the c-box.
04) if you have a roleplay forum of your own, please don't go about advertising it too much. a link in your name in the c-box or in your profile is cool, but don't be all "HEY COME JOIN MY SITE XOXO". all advertisements must be done in the advertisement section. members are welcome to post ads.
05) please remember to make love, not horcruxes. (this will be needed to put in the app somewhere. ;] )
06) i thought it was common sense to not name a character - wholly or partially - after celebrities/your playby. but i've seen it done on other sites and i must stress that this is a huge no-no. this is a HARRY POTTER roleplay, not a real life/imitation roleplay. also, this is very important, do NOT name characters after people you know in real life. you may take bits and pieces of their personality and put it into a character (we all do this, i think), but do not dare use their name. again, this is a harry potter roleplay.
07) also regarding names, you are only allowed to repeat a name ONCE - and the person who had the name first must give you permission. example: sarah plays ernest. you want to call your character ernest. that's fine, but sarah must be okay with it. (so that means you must PM an admin and they'll get in touch with the proper person.) if someone else comes along and wants to call their character ernest, they cannot. the same name can only be used twice. there's a world full of name - use them! please see the name ban list for all names already in use.
