Andrew Philip Carmichael
Andrew Philip Carmichael is a complicated chap. As complicated as 15 year olds get. He’s the love child of Edward (Eddie) Carmichael and Hestia Carmichael (nee Carrow), and brother to Richard Carmichael and Archibald (Archie) Carmichael. This is his story.. Why don’t we start with how the unlikely pairing of his parents happened. Richard, Andrew and Archie definitely were love children, almost sickeningly so. THE HISTORY OF- : Eddie Carmichael was and still is a very eccentric, boy, hardly a man. All through his Hogwarts years he wouldn’t bother with people or teachers, they were a trifle too complicated and rather boring. He was a nut for inventions and discoveries waiting beyond that veil of impossible. For Eddie, nothing was impossible. He’d spend all his time making diagrams and schematics. Don’t get me wrong, he could’ve had a huge fan following, being the charming, cheerful fellow he was, but the thought just didn’t tick. One day, Eddie Carmichael, in his 5th year, was sitting in the library, having finished his papers to submit long before time. He was busy scribbling on a notepad. Just then, who would take interest in his sort but Hestia Carrow, a bright, pretty fourth year quite unlike a Carrow in her way. Hestia looked at the boy, she’s heard of him and his antics. She bends over his shoulder playfully, “What you doing there,Eddie.”She raises her brows to tease him. The boy looks up absent mindedly but manages to get out an answer, “Nothing you would understand Miss Carrow”Darling Edward was spot on with his sarcasm, it really didn’t show on his lost face. Still,he pushed the pad towards her, and asked her to explain the drawing. She was able to read the blueprint like diagram, along with some complicated muggle equations, enough to figure out what the contraption was.. A bird cage that swings outwards and back in. Hestia snarked, “Oh and I suppose this would be useful for a lazy old owl keeper who can hook the cages to a timer, instead of simply letting the moonlight in..?” Eddie faltered. How dare she. This was ingenious, in its own right. The girl said, “ Well I can’t imagine anyone interested in this. It’s got no magic, simply muggle mechanics” Eddie looked at her, some amount of seriousness in his tone, “Muggles make magic of their own, with whatever little they seem to have. But you wouldn’t understand that would you, Miss Carrow”. Hestia stared at him, suddenly hurt.People often associated her with her family, and so they would.. But the Carrows were known to be Death Eaters. They were dark, powerful wizards, and everything that came with the status.. Muggle haters, Purebooded, orthodox, hated and feared by all.. Eddie meanwhile, was staring at his notepad which was now vertical in position. He shouted , “Oh MY GOD, YOU COULD ROOT OUT CARROTS LIKE THIS!” Hestia started, and looked around for the librarian. People were staring. The boy looked at her, “Do you have a watch? Muggle of course”. She gaped and stated indignantly,”NO.” Eddie looked around frantically and bent towards her, whispered, “Tell me all the muggleborns in the room.” Hestia’s eyes widened with anger,”JUST WHAT is that supposed to mean!?” “Well,I didn’t mean to- well you know, I assumed your sort mark out all the muggleborns in the room so you don’t bump into them.” She stared, angry and speechless. Before she could swear or hex him even, he said,”Well, I gotta run..”, and headed down the aisle. He turned around and walked backwards while he shouted,”By the way, Brilliant!” Hestia barked,”WHAT?” The boy grinned at her, his eyes twinkling, “You”, and turned around to run out of the library. Hestia was blushing furiously, a smile spreading on her face. The entire library was staring at her, she sat down promptly and buried her face into a Magical Cures for Daily Unwanteds. She couldn’t get Eddie Carmichael off her mind. The next time they met was after breakfast in the Great Hall. Hestia was sitting across from her twin sister, most unlike her in ways, Flora Carrow. There was a regular slytherin crowd having toast and jam with her that morning. Out of nowhere,a girl sitting next to Flora, leaned across towards Hestia sneering,”That nut of a mudblood Carmichael is looking over here..” Hestia’s eyes widened. “He IS?”, and on seeing her sister’s brows knitting together, “Oh, well..That’s. Unfortunate.” She gulped up some fruit to keep from screaming. She desperately wanted to turn around, call it girlish and silly, but she did want to talk to him again. “Oh, Is he- pointing? Who’s he pointing at?” She ducked her head, trying not to smile. “Hestia, is he asking for you?”, the girl stared at her, disbelievingly. Hestia answered quickly, “Must be, erm- assignment or something,” and hurriedly turned around. He smiled at her, and waved. He was waving at her. She smiled right back, trying not to laugh. “He’s bloody excited now isn’t he. Idiot.”, the girl said, and continued eating her cereal. Flora wasn’t easily fooled, and she glared at her sister. After breakfast, Hestia bumped into Eddie in the corridor outside the courtyard. They got to talking. It went something like this: Hestia : What is with the waving ?! Eddie : What’s wrong with that? Hestia : well! I donno!? That theres a table full of slytherins that would make a meal out of you? he : No matter, im not afraid of finding a few snakes in my bed.Er, dirty joke not intended.Though, some of those snakes i wouldnt mind putting in my. Bed. (He looks back at her) sorry. (she's thoroughly amused at this point) He : dont slytherins wave or smile for that matter? Wait, only to eachother? boy that's got to lead to serious inbreeding. (she bursts out laughing) He :Is it scary, crushing on someone and realising you're probably some sort of distant cousin to him? she : well, ive never had to worry about it. he : this is, by far THE best way to find out if a girl is single. I should write this down..Maybe even sell it in a book of . I donno, love tips, these people will pay for anything,God. Hestia smiled at him, and was staring a little until she realised he was potentially flirting with her. She stammered as she said, “Oh Hell, I’m late for class.” “Ah, you’ve missed what? Half hour now? No point.,” he said as he walked into the courtyard. She followed him . “I have Charms, he likes me, he won’t mind,” he patted the spot next to him on the step. And they had the most wonderful morning together. So,day after day,he shows her new schematics and diagrams, for magic contraptions as well as muggle ones. They try out potion combinations and work together a lot. A perfect team really, Eddie, reaching for the sky and Hestia, around to keep him from soaring too close to the sun. But she's falling in love with him, slowly..and he doesnt seem to be catching on, at least she thinks so. By the time they were out of school, things were getting difficult. The impending war made it even more evident that they could never be together. Edward Carmichael was brilliant, charismatic and growing to be a wonderful man, but he was still a muggleborn. He was still of unclean blood. Hestia had kept her feelings from her sister, and not once mentioned anything of the sort to her father, Achilles Carrow. The man was the third Carrow sibling, not a Death Eater, but very much a part of the same family. She would be completely shut out , disowned, removed from the family tree if her parents were to know. Achilles Carrow and Cassiopeia Carrow ( nee Burke) were her parents, and were not the kind to let their daughter fall in love with someone of Eddie’s blood and type. For so long, she was so scared she would be forced to join the dark side in the war. Eddie was fighting against them. He had decided to give it his all, and he wasn’t the sort to run away when needed . Finally, Hestia joined him after much deliberation from her family who were staying out of the war completely. Achilles wanted to protect his family, and he would abandon his siblings if it required him to do so. The youngest and weakest in status of the Carrow siblings, was indeed soft for his daughters, and hated to see Hestia join the war. It was during this hard time that Eddie and Hestia grew most towards eachother. Hestia worked mostly for the wounded. She was naturally inclined to the healing arts, but more than anything, she wanted to get out of the war. She wanted to have a life with Eddie away from her family and anything holding her back. When the war was over, however, Hestia was taken away by her family. She didn’t see Eddie for almost a year. Of course, she sent him owls, and he replied.. but there was no hope for having a future together.. They didn’t even talk about it, as they never had before.. One day, they met again. It was at Diagon Alley. Eddie was at the Leaky Cauldron to fix up a spot for his Apothecary nearby. Hestia and her family were also staying there, as they had to meet with some relatives for an anniversary. They meet in the street one morning, and even though they have been in constant contact, as I said, Hestia had told herself to forget it..there was no way she could, run away or anything, that was ridiculous. Hell, she didnt even know if he had proper feelings for her. They looked at eachother, laughing slowly. At how long it's been.. The last time they were together...she was taken away by her sister flora. And for her own good, he had tried to stay away from her. Eddie knew where she lived. And knew how she hated it, the pressure of being a Carrow, upholding the family name. Why, he could’ve found a way to take her away too, but he knew she wouldn’t abandon her family like that. After spending the morning together, they return back to the inn, taking eachother’s room numbers to meet later. That night, Eddie was scribbling on a paper as usual. A new pet project of the month.. “Eddie..”, her voice sounded, as it had so many times before. He loved how she said it, but he had learnt to not yearn for it as much anymore.. He turned around from his work and looked at her. There she was. She was insanely beautiful, and he couldn’t stand it. His hands have stopped their excited scribbling. She walks to him. “Are you..working..” He’s confused. She’s never talked like that before, and yet he felt like he’d yearned for it his whole life. He can't speak and simply shakes his head slightly as she comes and sits on him. Hestia holds his head in her hands,”I dont want to distract you or anything..” He smiles at her, absolutely dying, and completely smitten. “I-Do” That night, they kissed for the first time ever. Since that there, event, they stayed in constant contact through Owl and floo, the regular sneaking out at night and things. Hey, they hardly had the childhood do these things, they deserved to now right? Hestia wanted to work as a healer. She had taken all the classes for it and had the temperament and passion for it. She was also interested in potions as a hobby, so with Ed’s help, they set up a little apothecary for themselves, and she applied to St. Mungo’s. Of course, her name was Carmichael, and they didn’t ask too many questions at the time. She had aced her interview, and they were in desperate need of new recruits. Besides, she didn’t seem too much like a Carrow at least, so she hoped she could hide for now..They hadn't married yet, not officially. Hestia was still attached to her family, and wanted her father to know, and approve..to maybe even like Eddie, though that was probably going too far. Achilles found her out soon enough, and he was furious as expected. But Hestia would not falter. She had a row with her father and exclaimed that she would carry on her part of the Carrow legacy in her own way, and if he didn’t like it, he could rub her off the damn family tree for all she cared. Those nights were horrible when she cried over what she'd done, but she had never felt more strongly before and knew it was right, deep down. Over a few months, her sister was getting married, into the Pucey family. Perfect as usual her sister. Surprisingly though, Achilles asked Hestia to bring Eddie. She wasn’t sure about it, the entire Carrow family would be there, with their noses burying into her imminent marriage to the man. It would be horribly dangerous, but Achilles insisted she come with him. Eddie came with Hestia for the wedding, but left when the extended family began to arrive. He’d come just to meet darling daddy as it were. Believe me, that did NOT go well. Achilles didn’t say much at all, and Eddie was horribly uncharismatic around him. Finally, given the situation – Achilles hadn’t tried to kill his future son-in-law which was the okay Hestia was looking for. They had a small wedding with some of Eddie’s relatives. The Carrow side, that is, Achilles , Cassiopeia and Flora attended as well. Soon after, the newly weds were expecting a child. They had set up their apothecary in Diagon Alley, and had a nice house in the country. This was one was called Richard. The next one, born two years after, is the subject of our story, Andrew Philip Carmichael. And lastly, the third was again, born two years after, Archibald. They call him Archie. Alright then. That’s that for the family. The Carmichaels everyone! THE CHAP HIMSELF - : Andrew grew up a very curious young boy . He had a knack for gadgets and thingamabobs, just like his father that way. He was getting used to being Richard’s brother until another came along, Archie. Throughout his childhood he was reminded of the problems of being the middle child. One on hand, Andrew had to learn to be ‘more like’ his older brother, and yet he wouldn’t be excused for his behaviour as the youngest in the family was. His relationship with his brothers is very simple. Richard is the boring, horribly british adult, and Archie is the most fun thing ever born, ever. EVER. Andrew and Archie have been more close as kids. They have fought, kicked and bit, but they also know the most about eachother, and work together to prank their older brother Richard. Richard’s a good sport and takes it all very well, not to worry. They have lit his things on fire, and only got their hair changed to blue for a week. Richard and Archie have put rats in Andrew’s bed and recorded him talking in his sleep, much to Andrew’s horror. Funny, Archie seems to have never been pranked. Can’t fool that one for a second. Andrew loved to read, just loved it. He’d visit book shops in Diagon Alley (where they’d go often to man the shop) and hide in the back somewhere to pick out any books he wanted. He read a lot about Hogwarts too, which fuelled his dream of going there one day. His parents had already told him so much about school, and he couldn’t wait till he got in. The boy made friends very easy, and hardly got into trouble. Any problems the Carmichaels had related to school were usually from Archie, though Andrew frequently spoke up in class to contradict teachers and point out mistakes which landed him in detention. Andrew admired his father so much as a child, but grew to almost hate being compared to him by the relatives. As he went to Hogwarts, and was sorted into Ravenclaw he was told that it was expected. It was only right he’d be in his father’s house. As of now, his opinion of his father is rather cynical. In the third year, Andrew was compelled to work harder at his grades, if only to do as well as Richard before him. He had always been more inclined to making friends, and reading yes, but not the textbook. Come fourth year, he had a rival in class. The girl seemed to loathe him for being at the top of his form, which amused him for while. But as the year dragged on, he felt a little alienated and almost hurt by her outward rejection of his friendly advances. Andrew wasn’t the sensitive sort, he could’ve easily ignored her, but he definitely wasn’t the kind to leave off. After some badgering and persuasion, she gave in. This was Siobhan Finnigan, and she hated his grades and his friends and wanted them too. Well gee, thought Andrew, why didn’t she just ask! Since then, they did a lot of studying together late into the night, and coached eachother non-stop to help with the pile up of work. They grew quite close over the year. Andrew had other friends, but she was closest by far. They are currently quite thick, and talk to eachother about most things. For instance, only Siobhan knows Andrew’s deepest most embarrassing habits (which will be listed after this, yes they need to be listed, he is really his father’s son.) (Sorry Andrew) About his ambitions and dreams, Andrew realised soon that he’s quite humble in those respects. He wants to travel, and explore foreign places, write on them. Meet people and not be tied down by anything. Not so humble you say? He seems to think so, for his entire family has rather worldly ambitions and dreams that only heroes in history novels seem to have had. Eddie Carmichael would’ve been different, just gone with the flow of life, but he was tied down by the likes of love, and family- something Andrew hopes will never happen to him. Hestia Carrow decided to be a Carmichael , but still is a healer in a hospital. Both parents were in a war once, and have always worked for others and their comforts. Even Eddie’s farfetched inventions or any spark of creativity has been for the cause of making someone else’s life easier. They do deliveries at the apothecary and almost always let someone take their parcel with a promise of paying later. Andrew would never do that. None of those things. But wait there’s more.. Richard Carmichael is a genius. Sheer genius at everything he tries, and has his head bent on righteousness. He wants to go into law. Even if he’s probably the most shy and softspoken of their lot, he believes in serving the cause of justice so strongly. It almost makes Andrew laugh, his conviction. Archibald Carmichael, don’t be fooled by his name. He’s a regular spitfire and is not afraid of ANYTHING. He wants to be an auror someday, and Andrew knows he’d lay down his life for protecting his people. Just the sort of stuff he’s made of..No wonder he’s a Gryffindor. See what I mean? All of this makes Andrew feel like he could never be enough. He knows when worst comes to worst, he’d probably just pick up his things and leave. Hide on the other side of the globe if it comes to that.. He might not know it yet, but the real reason he’s beginning to hate his father is because deep down, he knows he’ll never be like him. Eddie was made of sterner stuff as a kid, and is sort of maniacally pure in his intentions. A bit of gold in human flesh. Andrew is hardly his son, though he might have his antics or mannerisms. Andrew Philip Carmichael, however, is not one to bother himself with such emotions. He’s more about living in the moment. Living life to the fullest would be his motto, except, his motto happens to be , ‘Go get ‘em Tiger’ Not too poised, but, pretty much the same thing right? Now, we come to a list of Andrew’s previously mentioned mannerisms, antics , habits etc. That make him Eddie Carmichael’s son, and otherwise rather weird : 1)Andrew sleep walks and sleep talks. A LOT. (His brother’s will testify that it’s pretty bizarre and hilarious.) I believe he’s shouted ‘ride fast Mustang!’ at the top his lungs while sitting bolt upright in bed once. 2)He looks at people in crowds and makes up their conversations in his head. This often leads to muttering and laughing to himself while onlookers stare. 3)He has the weirdest dreams and keeps a journal for them, interpreting them in the funniest ways. 4)He has a phobia of rats. He absolutely HATES them. He also can’t stand other gnawing creatures like mice, rabbits, gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs. Not so hot on dogs or cats either for that matter, but at least he doesn’t hyperventilate and scream when surprised with one in his bed. (That Archie) 5)Andrew get’s incredibly excited when staying up late, and tends to think up ideas for pranks which will definitely land him in detention the whole week. He also usually yells and swears and laughs at random moments when he’s in this mode. (you have been warned) Well, other than those little glitches, he’s a perfectly charming, interesting and rather handsome young man. He follows the rules of school, and does his homework on time. Regular Joe with regular friends and regular family. INTERVIEW WITH THE TIGER -: Andrew agreed to give a few words on some topics I gave to him, just to be a part of this. So, here we go - PS : Some disagreeable bits have been bleeped out for the purpose of being polite. Nosey Journalist : Well, Andrew, like I said, I have a few Questions. Shall we start? HOGWARTS SCHOOL OF WITCHCRAFT AND WIZARDRY – Andrew : I LOVED IT. Was so looking forward to it for so long. The books in that library, just wanted to get my hands on them, those leather bound- musty old ..pages. And there are SO MANY OF THEM! Merlin’s foggy cataracts, I’d want to go blind reading them. That’s going on the list of things. Excuse me. *hurries away to write down in journal* EDDIE CARMICHAEL– Andrew : Absolute. Nut. Next question. HESTIA CARMICHAEL- Andrew : She’s so perfect. Just, really. She ‘s smart, sweet to people, funny, pretty-why’d she have to marry that weirdo and ruin it. Well, at least I’m here.. so I suppose she had good reason. Oh and great name, Archibald- Thanks Mum. Years and years of ribbing in my very capable hands.. But really, she is the most wonderful person I’d ever hope to meet. Really. (mama’s boy isn’t he?) RICHARD CARMICHAEL - Andrew: Such an incredible priss. Perfect this perfect that, blah blah. Goof big brother though, I couldn’t do his stuff, coddle Archie,be nice to Dad.. all that’s meant for big brothers isn’t it? He doesn’t seem to be big headed yet but I’m waiting for him to show his genius off a little bit – just waiting to see that he’s got his ego lodged right up his (BLEEP). Erm- I mean, posterior. ARCHIE CARMICHAEL : Andrew: Don’t duel him, you’ll cry on back home. MAN he’s bloody brilliant! Mess with him and you’ll be sorry. Otherwise, he’s really fun. Good guy to have around a lot. Plus, you get to blame the broken vase on him. And it actually works, he does break things , so it’s believable. ACHILLES CARROW - Andrew: He’s a very cool Granddad, really. Sure he’s sour about Dad, but I mean, I think it’s rather good of him to not kill him on the spot. I know he wanted to. SIOBHAN FINNIGAN- Andrew: She’s SO AWESOME! She has no idea! So hard on herself all the time- who needs that. Really Shev, you need to chill out. Siobhan’s one of the best people I know, no joke- and err- oh wait, don’t get this wrong- we’re friends. Just friends. Don’t you dare mess that up, she’ll hex me. GIRLS – Andrew : Er- what? Nosey Journalist : You heard me, girls. How do you feel about the whole girl scene. Dating, love, hotness ,etc etc. Go. Andrew: Uhh-uhm-nothing in particular..I mean, I don’t fall in love or something. I’ve accepted it as a very vile, yet powerful force that brings even the sanest, most brilliant witches of her time down.. (His mum).. and so, I sure as hell hope that won’t happen to me. Nosey Journalist: Yes, yes, but what about girls. Andrew: Er-I haven’t thought about it. Don’t think I’m too inclined towards girls.. OR BOYS! GOD, you’re going to mess that one up- I know your lot, nosey journalists, always misquoting things and ruining lives. I clearly say - Not interested in boys. Or dating. Well, not dating. I mean, it’s not like I’m saying no to any girls that might be-err-interested. (ladies man) Nosey Journalist : Thank you for those words Andrew Carmichael, we’re through with our interview. Andrew : Oh good, I was getting hungry. Fancy some chicken? -X-X-X-X-X-X—X-X-X-X-X-X Well, that’s that. Words from our very own.. Although, allow me to add on that last thing about love. I think Andrew might just fall in love one day, despite being so adamant on staying out of it. Isn’t that how it always works? Yeah, I think it’s all an elaborate ruse. (Sorry Andrew, you were right about us nosey journalists.) Oh and I forgot, Andrew has a general view on conflicts-all out wars or simple arguements- Make Love, Not Horcruxes. DONE! Nifi 16 GMT +4 |
