VERA ZAVIA VAN DER HEUVEL
FULL NAME: Vera Zavia van der Heuvel Vera meaning truth Zavia (a verson of Xaviera) meaning 'new house' van der Heuvel - the traditional Dutch way of naming people from the regions they came from. van der Heuvel translates to 'of the hills' AGE/BIRTHDAY: 18 / October 18th 2005 OLD HOUSE: Hufflepuff SEXUALITY: Bisexual WAND: Pine, Bowtruckle fibre, 10 inches LOOKS: She has dark, lustrous black which falls in natural curls. Sometimes she takes the time to straighten it, but most of the time she lets it be. Her eyes are electric blue and almond shaped. She has a rich olive skin tone, partly due to her bi-racial heritage, and also from getting easily tanned in the sun playing Quidditch. She's 5 feet 5 inches, skinny and small chested. She has long legs, a flat stomach and a thin, not so curvy frame. Vera has a heart shaped face, framed with her slightly unruly hair which she loves to experiment with. Her ears are double pierced, and she also has a navel piercing, which not many people know about. Her willowy frame is usually made up for with heels which she adores, and she's rarely seen in sober colored clothes. Her appearance usually screams for attention (in a good, appreciated way). It isn't uncommon for her to be seen with one bright scarf or neon nail paint or bright, dangling earrings. She loves to make statements with her clothes. She has a small scar on her elbow from where her bone once broke and jutted through when she got hit by a Bludger, and she has a tattoo of butterflies and stars splattered over her left shoulder. FAVOURITE CLASS: Ancient Runes & History of Magic. LEAST FAVOURITE CLASS: Potions BROOM: Firebolt 1000 PET/S: A cat named Cat, an owl named Doofenshmirtz, and a dog named Sage HOBBIES: Quidditch, reading history/period novels, designing her own clothes LIKES: Quidditch, Her sewing machine, Alcohol, Boys, Mint chocolate chip ice cream, American junk food, Holland, Muggle cinema, Plays and theatre, History books, historical documentaries, bright colors, loud music, all sorts of berries, train rides, Oliebollen ( a Dutch pastry ) DISLIKES: Early mornings, traveling by sea, Potions class, studying, homework, vegetables, hot water, tea, her birthday, chicken nuggets, classical music, teen drama novels, garlic, eating when it's not a meal time, people touching her things without permission. BAD HABITS: Never wakes up on time and isn't punctual at all, she keeps biting her fingernails all the time, she is disorganized and a messy person, doesn't think twice before saying something GOOD HABITS:Devoted to any job she takes up, always tries to help others when she can, always eats her meals on time and never misses a single one (only when it comes to food), exercises regularly STRENGTHS: 1) Creativity - She's a very creative girl with an imagination that knows no bounds, be it related to her designing, or the poems she writes sometimes, or sketches she might do. 2) High metabolism. She doesn't get tired easily, and is always full of life. 3) She's an amazing flier and is rather good at playing Quidditch. (She usually plays the position of Keeper, but she can substitute decently enough for a Seeker, if needed. It's because her aim sucks but she can catch things and spot things easily) 4) She's very passionate about anything she does and always gives it her hundred percent. 5) She's good with dates (historical, as well as birthdays, anniversaries, etc). WEAKNESSES: 1) She can't sing to save her life. One of the most tone deaf people there is. 2) She may be high in the creativity department, but when it comes to application of theories and spells in Charms or Potions or Transfiguration, she's terrible at it. She can't live with straight forward rules and phenomenons. 3) Caffeine is her drug. She can't say no to it, ever. 4) She's easily distracted, and always loses track of time and forgets if she's supposed to be meeting somebody or supposed to be doing something else. PERSONALITY: Vera is an incredibly quirky personality and works on a different frequency compared to everybody else. It's a common thing for her to be around day dreaming or humming (tunelessly) to herself or sketching on the edges of a notebook. She gets easily distracted and often trails off mid conversation, or forgets what she's doing and starts doing something else. She works at a slow pace and even if she gets work done, quite well, it takes her time, not because she needed the extra effort, but because she got caught up doing something else or having fun. She's incredibly creative and loves anything not related to studies, or anything which has rules either meant to be bent or broken. This would include her love for poetry, art, history and designing. All fields of study, stories which happened, or ideas which can take shape later on. She doesn't work well with pre-defined rules. This is probably why she barely passed her other classes such as Charms or Transfiguration or Potions, especially Potions since everything is so precise and concrete, nothing fluid. Quidditch on the other hand is probably the only field where she enforces the rules like she's a self appointed police or referee. It's her favorite game in the whole world, and she loves to fly at any given time of any given day of any season of the year. It's something she grew up with and it's one of the few happy memories of her childhood she holds onto. And flying isn't the only hope and dreams she doesn't give up on. Vera can be very stubborn, to the point of being unrealistic when she has a perfect vision for something. It's one of the reasons she always dramatically imagines her family being whole again, her parents sorting their issues out and going back to the way things were. Sometimes she doesn't even realize how much this hurts her family who are all happy now without being tied down to each other. She's also incredibly insecure and fears loneliness. Having spent many years feeling abandoned, she cannot imagine never having friends and despite having a distracted persona, she tries her hardest to make friends. Of course, it's not that difficult since she's positively nice, radiant and always says nice things about people. She isn't brutally honest, or rude and sometimes, she may seem a little vain or narcissistic, but she's a genuinely nice person to be around. This is probably because in her world, she's the centre of the universe and she directs how her life should go. She treats it like one big play whom she's the director of, and sometimes seems imposing, bossy or mean when she wants people to behave in a certain way and they don't. When it comes to romance though, she's very complicated. She loves flirting, and partying to meet new people or just having plain old fun. But she's a true romantic at heart, and really believes that her true-love fantasy will come true one day. Until then, she's enjoying the ride the best she can with whomever she finds interesting. FEAR: Being left alone. She might seem like the kind of girl who lives in her own world and would do fine on her own, but she cannot for even a single second imagine spending a long amount of time alone. She needs company. WORST MEMORY: Her parents' divorce. Her parents separated a long time back and for some time, that had been very hard for her to come to terms with. But when she was in her sixth year, they finalized their divorce and that was the moment which truly made Vera realize that her family was not going back to what it used to be. DESIRES: To bring her parents back together again. To become a world renowned fashion designer. SECRETS: 1) Her father's girlfriend, a few years ago, met with a car accident while out in Muggle London and it was a close call, but she survived without permanent damage. The whole time the woman was in the hospital, Vera was wishing she wouldn't make it. 2) She's been in love only once and she doesn't think she'll ever get over it. She's moved on, of course, but she wonders if she'll ever feel the same way again for somebody else. 3) The night she lost her virginity, she had sex twice, with two different people. She knows who they are, but she doesn't remember much because she was so wasted. (During the winter of her fifth year) MOTHER: Alexandria van der Heuvel (nee Fell), 43, worked as an Auror, but gave up her job to look after her family, Hufflepuff Alumnus, muggleborn. FATHER: Cortland van der Heuvel, 47, works for the Ministry of Magic, Ravenclaw Alumnus, half blood SIBLINGS: Nicolaas van der Heuvel. Janson van der Heuvel. Rianne van der Heuvel. OTHER IMPORTANT FAMILY: Sabastian van der Heuvel - Paternal Grandfather, deceased Harriet van der Heuvel - Paternal Granmother, deceased Sarah Fell - Maternal Grandmother Gerard Fell - Maternal Grandfather, deceased Christopher Fell - Maternal Uncle Katherine Fell - Maternal Aunt (wife of Christopher) David Fell - cousin Eleanor Fell - cousin. HISTORY: On the early, chilly autumn morning of eighteenth of October, a baby girl was born to an excited set of parents in a small village in Holland. Visiting her father's homeland (the land from where his muggleborn father and muggle mother were before they fled during World War II) on a little vacation, neither of the parents expected her to go into labor. But, despite the plans they had for their baby girl, she was all set and ready to get out into the real world, and after a smooth delivery, Vera Zavia van der Heuvel was brought into this world. Of half Dutch descent, and half British descent, she grew up in the suburbs of London in a comfortable, two storey, modest-yet beautiful home with her parents and elder brothers and sister. They had the perfect little garden, hidden from view by large trees where the kids could easily fly around on toy broomsticks and play with conjured balls, or spend summer evenings splashing in the inflated pool. It seemed like a picture perfect family, all four siblings close to age and getting along. Even back then, Vera worked wonders, running around, constantly on a sugar rush, asking questions, collecting bugs or drawing on whatever pieces of paper and parchment she could find. And when her siblings were tucked away in bed for the evening, she'd be the one asking for one bedtime story after another well until nine or ten o clock until she fell into a fast sleep, waking up much later the next morning. She was just a naive little girl, of course. Whenever her parents would argue, visibly furious with each other, she'd laugh and thing how nice it was that Mummy scolded Daddy just like she scolded her, which meant she loved him, obviously. She didn't notice how miserable Nick would be when neither of his parents had the time to take him out for ice cream, or when Rianne would cry when she broke her toy but both parents were busy fighting behind closed doors. In her head, her family was perfect and all families were like this. Instead she focused on trying to do magic, and failing each time, or playing with her imaginary friends or drawing butterflies. It was a nice little world, which came crashing down when she turned five. She doesn't remember the night much, just that she woke up to Janson crying and putting a finger to her lips and asking her to keep quiet. She doesn't remember getting out of bed, or how she ended up in Nick's room, where he was sitting solemnly, with Rianne nodding off in his lap. All she remembers is snuggling up to him and crying, and crying, knowing that something was wrong, but not wanting to know what because her big brother would fix everything. It was hours later that they heard the front door slam and a few sobs before Nick's room door opened and their mother walked in, red faced and tired. The next thing she knew she was waking up in the morning, finding out that their father had left and nobody knew when he would return. They tried to fall back into old patterns, and it hurt a little less everyday but it wasn't easy. Their father wrote to them often, but never met them. They moved into a different house, into the city, for a fresh change and before she knew it, she was getting ready to go to Hogwarts. She was beyond annoyed, of course, that she was older than most kids in her class. It was one of the downfalls of being an October born child (having to wait another entire year to go to school), but she was more excited about going than that. She wasn't all that scared or overwhelmed because her brothers had been there, and would be there, as would be her cousins one of whom was the same age as her. She remembers feeling much like she used to be before the whole fiasco with her parents, almost fully happy again. She made friends, developed an interest in history and tried her best to spend time with her family. By the time her third year rolled around, even Rianne had joined them and they were one big happy family off to school. It was during the summer before her third year that she saw her father again, after nearly nine years of being only in touch through letters and the Floo. They had a long walk through the city, where she found out what her father had been doing the whole time he'd been away. She learnt of how he was seeing somebody, about how he'd been cheating on her mother for a long time before they broke up and how no matter what the family had been through, they would always be there for one another. Needless to say, she was horrified and heart broken because she thought her father was back to live with their mum and them. They went back that evening, her with a heavy heart, prepared for a fight as they celebrated Nick's seventeenth birthday. But it was a beautiful night, with jokes, and laughter and civil conversation and she dispelled all fears, truly believing that her father would fall in love with their mother again. It was around this time that she started believing in true love and romance, and thought anybody was blind to not see how perfect her family was, reunited again. She firmly thought that if she closed her eyes and didn't see the world, they wouldn't see her either. By the time she went through fourth and fifth year, she wasn't a little girl anymore. Her earlier circle of best friends who played together, had changed into multiple circles of house mates/classmates/party friends/good friends/flirty friends and just every other category that a teenage girl has in a social circle. She grew interested in boys, and even entertained the idea of being with girls, but never really daring to go for either. It was around this time that she grew seriously interested in history and art as well, and saw of it more as a passion and something seriously worth considering instead of just a hobby. She started attending museum shows, exhibitions, as well as boutiques and markets for ideas and quirky looks. It was after one such exhibition, that she'd made her way to a friend's Christmas party during her fifth year. By the end of the night she was drunk and found herself in somebody's arms, their tongue shoved down her throat and moving faster than she'd ever thought she'd be capable of. She didn't think much of it because she was already upset about Nick informing her that her parents were drawing divorce papers, finally, and these were Muggle friends anyways so who cared. She woke up the next morning, wrapped in sheets, a strong arm around her (the host's brother) and another ofter, female body wrapped around her. She didn't remember much, but she just knew what had gone down with both of them, and left the party feeling both tingly and ashamed at the same time for not even remembering her first time. She eventually got over it, and even calmed her curious/confused heart by dating a few girls for a while. In her sixth year. she dropped quite a few subjects which she was failing, opting for ones she liked, such as History of Magic and Ancient Runes (and some others she was forced to take). It was at the time that she was attempting to focus on her studies and designs, as opposed to the broken heart left behind from unrequited love. She had also convinced herself that the only possible reason her parents were still not divorced was because things would work out (it's not like they were having trouble deciding how to split the money or anything). But in the Easter holidays of that year, her parents announced their divorce and by the summer, they had split up. Vera was devastated. Anybody who knew her, knew how drastically she had changed from this. She didn't know what to do anymore. She'd always thought that if she sits with her eyes closed, then the world would stop seeing her too. But she'd turned a blind eye to the truth and now it had come to hurt her. While most of her family was happy to finally severe ties and be able to draw boundaries, she was confused beyond belief as to how easy it was for them. She concentrated all this negative energy inside her into her work - making some of her best pieces of dark poetry, and sharp, edgy pieces of clothing and art. This continued for most of her seventh year. She's just graduated from school, and is applying for an internship at a Muggle fashion house in London (she prefers the freedom of Muggle fashion). She also moved out of her house, to give her some space from the memories of her family being together. Instead, she's rented a flat in downtown London. The year, the space and her freedom to pick her career is now finally clearing the heavy cloud over her. After all, despite the broken heart, different homes each holidays and the plethora of drama, her world is just as she sees it and it must remain that way: Perfect. BROOKE NINETEEN GMT+5:30 (IST) |
