ANNABEL LYSANDRA HEWER
Interviewer Lissie So... let's start off with something easy. What is your full name? My full name? Annabel Lysandra Hewer. Do you have any nicknames? I go by Lissie - though that seems a bit childish these days... Why do you say that? Because... [sheepishly sings] I am 16 going on 17. [laughs] Well, I'm sure fellows you meet tell you you're sweet. But, uh, moving on, tell us why you go by Lissie. It's from years ago. I was in kindergarten and our class was watching a film - an animated one. It was called Annabelle's Wish and it was about a cow who wanted to be a reindeer. I went home in tears because my classmates made fun of me for the rest of the day. I refused to even be called Anna. I was traumatized. So I decided that I would go by Lissie. [shrugs] An interesting, but unfortunate, story. Kids can be cruel. I don't miss them. Who would? [small pause] Do you have any siblings? [nods] Four older brothers. Four? Wow! Do you mind giving us their names? [shakes head] There's Jack - he's the oldest and my guardian. Then there is Charles, George and Rupert. Jack is your guardian, you say? [tightly] Yes. Care to share why? [hesitates] My parents died in a car crash two years ago when I was fourteen. Jack was the oldest and most capable of caring for me, so... off I went to live with him. I'm sorry to hear about your parents. Thank you. [pauses] But in a way... and I really hate saying this... it was, for lack of a better phrase, almost a blessing. [cringes] That sounds worse out loud.... But what I mean is that, I was never really close with my brothers. They were more like strangers to me - except maybe Rupert, because we're only a few years apart. We never spent much time together; though, when we did, they were the best times of my life. Now I see them a lot more and we're closer than we've ever been. Which is really great. But it was at the expense of my parents.... That's understandable.... Do you like living with your brother? It's not so bad. It was strange at first - he's so much older than me and I barely knew him, but we eventually worked through things. It's easier now. I like to tease him about girl problems, just to see him cringe. [laughs] Unfortunately, it wasn't so fun in the beginning. There were moments when I needed a woman to talk to, but... well, I didn't have the luxury. So now it's easier to just laugh about that stuff. I'm sure. So, you have no sort of mother-figure in your life? Not really. My brother, George, is married; but none of us can stand his wife. She's horrible. How so? She's just... evil. She keeps George, and their two boys, away from us. We never see him. And the rare times that we do, it's as if she's supervising. Like he might say something she doesn't want him to. Besides, her name is Lavinia. [looks dubious] How many nice Lavinia's have you known? Well... I've haven't known any, actually-- You're lucky. I'll take your word for it. [clears throat] You mentioned an age difference between Jack and yourself? Oh... right. Yeah, he's 17 years older than me. [looks shocked] That's quite a difference! I wasn't exactly planned.... [chuckles] Does Jack... erm... date? I think so, but he doesn't bring them home. I'm not sure if he's seeing anyone right now. And what about you? Do you have a boyfriend? [blushes] No.... Is there someone you fancy? No one my brothers would approve of. Sweet Lissie and a... bad boy? That is scandalous. Give us the scoop! [restrained and quickly muttered] His name is Jake and that's all I'm saying! Does Jake know you've got a crush on him? [swallows] Well... I did kiss him, so I imagine he knows. You kissed him? This is getting juicer by the minute! [no response] Alright, alright. Tell us a few things you like - other than Jake the Bad Boy. [takes deep breath] I like... painting, when it's raining, walking around barefoot, animals, calming music, hot chocolate, rugby, watching films, baking, having fun with my brothers, reading, musicals.... Very cool. Do you have any animals? Oh, yes! Jack has a cat. I have a dog and an owl. I'm trying to talk Jack into letting me get a duck. I heard they can be trained like cats. A duck? [nods enthusiastically] That is certainly different. What kind of dog do you have? A Great Dane. I got him when I was ten and I gave him the brilliant name Duke. [smirks] Jack hates him, but pretends he doesn't. He's not a fan of dogs? No. [lost in thought] Duke was really my father's dog. After the car accident, I didn't want to let go of him. Charles and Rupert look after him when Jack and I are gone. At Hogwarts, you mean? [nods] Yes. If I could, I would bring him with me. But dogs aren't allowed. As I recall. How do you like Hogwarts? It's nice. A lot better than Beauxbatons. [laughs at interviewer's confused look and continues without prompt] My mum didn't want me going to Hogwarts. I, um... I'm really shy and have a hard time fitting in. She thought, with Jack working there, it would make things worse for me. So I had to learn French and I went to Beauxbatons. But I hated it there. It was awful. I like being at Hogwarts... I like having Jack close. No one thinks it's odd that you're his sister? [shrugs]I don't think so. Good. [pauses] So, I asked you about some of your likes, but what are some of your dislikes? Confrontation, arguing with someone, yelling, clowns... um, that's all I can think of at the moment. That's alright. I was putting you on the spot. What's your favorite book? This is going to sound nerdy, but I love historical fiction. There's this one book called Revolution that always sticks with me. At least, that's what coming to my mind at the moment! [laughs] Favorite ice cream? Strawberry. Season? Spring. Memory? [takes a moment] I can't remember when it was, but it was shortly after the accident... when I moved in with Jack. Charles and Rupert came over. It was awkward and I was being antisocial, watching movies in the living area. I think my brothers were deciding what to do - either with me, or for the day. Well, it started to rain - it was down-pouring! The next thing I know, we're all watching Titanic. They were good sports about it, and then we just watched movies for the rest of the day and night. We ate popcorn, made the old-fashioned way on the stove-top? And we filled ourselves with sweets and ordered pizza... A sad time, but a good memory. That does sound like a good memory, considering. [awkward pause] So, uh, tell me what you're most proud of. [long pause, then hesitation] This is going to sound strange, but kissing Jake. It was the first time I had ever done anything like it. The first time I had taken something I wanted, without worrying about the repercussions. I've never been that bold before. It was a defining moment, and I've grown since then. I'm starting to come out of my shell a little more. That's not strange at all; I see why you would be proud of it. Don't let people push you around, Lissie. Yeah.... [clears throat] Do you know what you want to do when you leave Hogwarts? No idea! [laughs and shakes head] I haven't given it much thought, and no one has asked me. I really have no clue what I want to do. Well, what do your brothers do? Jack is a professor, George is a photographer, Charles is in business and Rupert is in a band. You make it sound like Charles is part of The Mob. [straight face] Maybe he is. [arches a brow] [cracks a smile] Rupert is in a band? Yes, The Fifth Horsemen. Very neat. Do you have anything else you would like to say? I don't think so. Alright. Thank you for letting me interview you. It was a pleasure. You're very welcome.
