CLAIRE ROSALINE POWELL
If there was just one good word to describe Claire Powell, sunshine would be it. Chipper, bubbly, and happy-go-lucky, Claire is the result of a reasonably spoiled and sheltered childhood and a twin brother for her best friend. She's never much lacked for love as a result, and therefore has always had plenty of love to give back to the world. Her twin brother Benjamin likes to make fun of her for this, but Claire is perfectly happy being a veritable ray of sunshine for all her friends and family. That's not to say Claire's life hasn't had its fair share of ups and downs. Her father, Bradley Powell, is an important Ministry official, which means he isn't often home to spend time with his kids. She hasn't always been happy about this fact, but she understands. Her mother, Helen Bissette, is a French witch from Beauxbatons who moved to England for a job as manager of a French designer boutique chain opening up in London. Though her mother works from home often enough to properly raise her children, both the Powell parents are rather busy, which meant that, in childhood, Claire and Ben were often each other's only company, especially once their older half-brother Digger started spending most of the year at Hogwarts. Speaking of Digger, Claire has always found it a bit hard to connect to her eldest brother, given the age gap and how quiet he tends to be. Things got a little easier as she grew older and Digger babysat her and Ben a lot during the summer, so they were able to connect more than they could when she was younger. Claire is the kind of person who believes in family above all, and would drop everything for either of her brothers in a heartbeat. She's not entirely sure if Digger is aware of this, but she hopes so. Claire loves her brothers more than anything or anyone else in the world. Her other brother, her twin and best friend, is by far the most important person in her life. She and Benjamin, despite their personality differences, have never been less than inseperable. With Digger off at Hogwarts and their parents working for much of their early childhood, the twins were each other's best friends basically since they were born. She adores Ben and would do anything for him, even if she also enjoys teasing him and smacking him when he's being an idiot (which is often, in her estimation). Despite being sorted into different Houses, their friendship and love for each other has never wavered, to the point where Claire is a regular presence in the Slytherin common room these days. Though she and Ben have a friendship that can never be replicated, that doesn't mean she hasn't made other friends in her time at Hogwarts. The Hat was torn between Ravenclaw and Hufflepuff for her, but it ultimately decided on Ravenclaw for her unbridled enthusiasm for learning new things, as well as her more creative side - she's incredibly interested in fashion design, thanks to her mother's work, so her notebooks are filled with drawings of dresses in new fashion trends. Claire has made quick friends with the girls in her year, always ready with a smile and a hug and a cheerful word for everyone. She's also friendly with the Slytherins who have gotten used to her being in their common room, especially Ben's closest friends. There's hardly anyone she dislikes, as school is an overall enjoyable experience for her, though this may change once Ben starts dating. She won't be very happy at the thought of his attention going to some other girl. The same problem, however, does not apply to Digger, who is now happily engaged to a miss Emily Marsdon, whom Claire absolutely adores. She's very happy for her brother finally getting it together and proposing (she may have squealed loud enough to burst both her brothers' eardrums when she found out) and she loves hanging out with Emily. To her, Emily is the sophisticated, world-wise older sister she never had, and she's always going to her for advice on all her problems, from boys to shopping to studying. Especially since Emily is her teacher at Hogwarts, which makes it all the more easier for Claire to go chat with her over tea. Ben likes to tease her that Emily's going to get annoyed with her and thus leave Digger, but Claire doesn't take him very seriously. A relationship like Emily and Digger's is, in fact, on her wishlist for things she dreams will happen to her by the time she's twenty-five. (Other things on the list include: finally kissing a boy or two, getting a job in fashion design, actually managing to prank Ben back for a change, and maybe even making Head Girl. Beyond that, most of it's a secret. As far as boys go, as much as she likes some of them - which is to say, a lot - she also gets a bit hopelessly shy around any really cute boys she might notice, which means she has yet to properly go on a date, let alone experience the full spectrum of teenage hormones from flirting to kissing and beyond.) On the other, French side of her family, Claire's got a couple cousins from her mother's siblings, all of whom she gets along with fairly well. They do live in France, though, so she sees them maybe once a year. Claire loves visiting France, though, and she's always kind of wanted to live in Paris like her cousins. Everything about the city seems totally glamorous and alluring to her, and she's a total hopeless romantic at heart, so living in the city of love is definitely on her wishlist as well. Being fairly close with her mother's family means she's also pretty close to her mother, despite Helen's busy work. She inherited her love of fashion design from her mother, after all, and she loves to sit and talk to her mom for hours, practicing her French and learning about French culture and new fashion trends. She's not quite as close with her father, due to him being so busy all the time, but that's not to say she doesn't love him just as much. Though she knows her family isn't the perfect, tightly-knit unit of a dream family, Claire loves what she has anyway. PEARL EIGHTEEN UTC-8 (PST) |
